THE STATE OF THE BUSINESS

I think as notaries we must take a stand to the signing companies and title companies who want us to provide a service without errors and present a professional image to the borrowers for such low fees. I know I have made an investment in my business of my time and money to get to where I am now. I know the NNA is giving the new notaries the impression that they can make a killing in the signing business. However, we know this is not true. There is education and marketing, and marketing. I value the time that I put into a signing and the materials I use. I just can't see doing a signing for $50 and having to fax back sometimes 20 pages or more. We must take a stand let the newbies make the mistakes or get discouraged because the NNA has said they can make all this money. As to whether the business will be as it was, perhaps not. But we still can make this work.

That's what Notary Networks are all about...

cut out the middle man. If you analyze the system Signing Services bring nothing to the process. In fact the Signing Services have caused some of the most serious problems. Join or start a notary network and cut out the Signing Services. All the instructions for Notary networks are here and some very successful Networks post here regularly. Since you are in Florida check with Becca, for one, who posts here regularly. Be prepared to demonstrate your competence and willingness to market however because that is what it's all about.

Only by standing firm will we succeed.

I'll spare you the whole horrorible Thursday drama. Edocs arrived twenty minutes before a signing appointment time in a town half an hour away. I printed more than 360 pages for a signing. After the docs were printed, the borrower said he could not have a witness present. (Yes, during the initial confirmation phone call he'd been told that the signing could not take place without a witness in addition to me.) The signing effectively got cancelled an hour and a half AFTER the originally-scheduled starting time. The signing service refuses to pay me for my time and effort, other than a pittance for printing.
