Yellow Pages?

Good morning!
Does anyone advertise in the local yellow pages? The reason I am asking:
A gentleman needed a notary & no one is listed in my local yellow pages.
He found me via the internet...and from which website? This one! (Thanks Harry).
Is it worth my $ to advertise locally? I think I'm on every notary locator there is, but just wondering..

Wow! I can't imagine that...

Our yellow pages are full of notary advertisements.... Sounds like a good opportunity to me...

Re: Yellow Pages? You have to look at cost vs.

the expected gain from notary work. I know in my area, yellow book advertising is expensive. There are at least 4 books that I would have to advertise in and each one would cost me a minimum of $250.00 per month.

Now why did my long winded post come up NM?

Anyway, I'll retype again.

I did a yellow pages add in the Rochester Hills local edition a few years ago and this also included an on-line ad. I was too late for the east area Detroit edition.

All that it yielded was foreign men, calling me in the middle of the night to "notarize copy of driver license". I didn't renew.

Michgian does not require a notary for vehicles as some states do and I detest general notary work as I have not found it to be profitable for me.

Most find me on the internet without a yellow pages ad. Most are far away and I just tell them to go to a ups store.

Value return on dollar invested didn't make my experience worth it. It is expensive. Even here there are none listed but that didn't help. I am listed in the BBB free directory. I've learned that anyone looking for "professional" services will find us on the internet somewhere.

Most people want a document or title notarized only and that just isn't worth it. Send them to a mailing center, FedEx Kinkos, or UPS store.

We have had good results from the Notary One program. Expensive but has paid off.
Google mobile notary.

I did take an ad (first time trial for me) & there is only 1 other notary listed except for the UPS store. It did help in making the decision to advertise there. The publication just came out, & is still being delivered, but websites are still (in my opinion) the best & easiest way to be found.

Big difference not mentioned here is where you live. If you live in CA where you can charge $10 a signature, a yellow pages ad could very well be worth it. If you live somewhere where your statutory maximum fee is 50 cents or a dollar, a yellow pages ad will likely be an annoyance rather than a boon. People rarely want to pay a travel fee if they can go to the bank or UPS for $1. And if they want to come to you, the $1 isn't worth your time. Especially since most of the people who call won't actually show up anyway.

It is worth it for me...

While there are several notaries listed, I make $200 - $300 a month from general notary work from my Yellow Page listing. It is not expensive here. I have a business telephone number, no phone, it is on permanent forward to my cell number. This cost less than $20/Mo and it comes with a Free listing in the local Yellow Pages. If there are no other notaries listed I would think it may well be worth while to have the cheapest business line service with this free listing.

Works for me too...

I'm the only mobile notary in the yellow pages for a metro area of a million people. I get numerous calls for all kinds of notarizations, and enjoy the process, meeting people, providing a public service, and the money's good too. It also introduces me to people that had no idea such a thing as a mobile notary existed, and that has opened up some additional opportunities as well. My listing costs $44/month, and would be well worth it at 5 times the cost. Appointments are easy to work into my regular signing travels.
