creepy LO

Last night I had a very long closing that I felt I went above and beyond for and today what was the thanks I got? The LO called the title co. to complain about me "telling the BO's the loan orig. fee was too high".What??????? The BO did call him during the closing and told him "the lady here say she thinks it's really high, too". (There I sat with my mouth wide open!) I had been instructed by LO to call him when the job was completed and when I did I said "By the way, I didn't comment on any fees, I asked them to call you for the details, because I didn't know what factors were involved". I thought that would have cleared things up. But, no I guess he thought it'd be fun to get a notary in trouble. I'm fairly certain the title company believed my side of the story, but I am really angry and just have to vent somewhere! (I'd like to give the LO another call, that's for sure! the jerk!)

I had a borrower lie about something I supposedly said. The borrower called their LO and said that I said their interest rate was too high. Well, of course I said nothing of the sort. I was happy that the TC called to ask me what really happened. The EO told me she was sure the borrower was telling a story as I had been a top rated closer for the TC for over two years. My point is, many EOs know what is really going on and will give you the benefit of the doubt, especially if you have a long standing business relationship with them.

Re: creepy LO - I totally agree Becca...

I had a LO rip me a new one on the bwr's speaker phone--a call which he placed because he thought the ss was wrong and he wasn't going to listen to any different. As soon as I left I called the title company and said, "Hey, heads up on an angry client...blah, blah, blah."

They just laughed.

Now that I understand the syndrome of a green behind the ears newbie LO, I understand that in some instances you must play, "This ego MUST be saved."

...". (There I sat with my mouth wide open!) ...

I would never sit silently by while someone lied about me. My purpose being there is to get the paperwork signed so they get their loan and everyone gets paid - including me! Them telling lies about me isn't a good road to be on for that check or future checks from the client. Years ago I had a rather 'odd' lady who had all her notes about her loan written in circles on little tiny post-its, in the margins of different newspaper pages, and assorted other little scraps of paper. She had a fixed interest rate. She picked up the phone and called the LO (without saying anything first) and told him that I told her the APR being 'different from the interest' made it an adjustable interest rate. Because she was so 'odd', I basically snatched the phone out of her hand and told him that I never said anything of the sort. Also, when these things happen, call your client the minute you are out the door - that way if a call comes in they already have your 'side' of the story.

I didn't call the title co. right away, b/c the closing was over around 10pm. Since I was asked by the LO to call him when the closing was complete, I made a point of saying to him "By the way, I never said anything about the orig. fee". I figured he understood what was going on...I guess not! I haven't been working with this co. very long, normally when I get jobs from them they are with another LO that is a really nice guy. I had one of his loans last week and from what the BO said, I assumed he had actually requested that I do the closing. So, maybe I have that in my favor!
(I know that I didn't do anything wrong, I just am concerned about who/what they believe.)
I'll take your advice, though, if it ever happens again, and call the title co. and leave a message if they're closed. Knowing this job, it will happen again! (Every day is a learning experience!)

Hi Laurie, I have been blamed for deals not going thru and I am always completely amazed by their gall at blaming me. I did one signing where the BO would not sign pick up a pen or sign anything. He said when I walked in that he did not trust the LO and I got blamed for that one. I TOTALLY understand your frustration!
