thanks to an anonymous notary
Although I haven't done a signing yet, I did have the privledge of notarizing a doc for a lady on Sat (my first entry for my logbook). At the end of the appointment, I casually asked her where she found my name, and she stated that she got my name from a notary in Puyallup, who had referred her to a notary the first time she needed one, back in Tacoma.
She told me that this notary, has now referred her to two different notaries, 1 in Tacoma, and me in Federal Way, but has never actually done any work for her. I thought this was pretty nice, that this woman (the notary, she hinted that she was female) was willing to refer other notaries on two different occasions, as I guess what I would call great customer (public?) service.
So to whoever it was that referred her to me, Thanks!

Andrew, I always try to refer the caller to someone...even if it means that I have to look it up and call them back. If I am at the office and I can find someone I know, I will most certainly see what I can do.
FWIW, I am not the one who referred you but, if I am looking for a notary, I will always choose people I have met, and like, over someone I don't know. If I don't know anyone, I will choose a poster that I have seen here over anyone else. (If they seem like they know what they are doing)
I also will tell them what I know about the person I refer, and if I don't know what kind of work they do, I will let them know that, as well.
I think, if they know I will try to find someone for them, they may remember me when they have a signing in my area. It gets difficult in this area. We become very rural, very quickly. Not a lot of people listed for the outlying areas. A typical example would be...we get calls all the time for Clarkston, WA. It's about a solid 2 hour drive for us. Most companies wouldn't know that Lewiston, ID is literally acrossed the river. Most ID notaries would hold dual commission in an area like that. People are more than grateful when they get clues.
I may get bashed here, but I feel it's good customer service.

Referrals are good customer service, and ...
... what goes around comes around.
Networking helps everyone. Not everyone needs a MOBILE Notary. Not everyone who needs a Notary can get to an office during office hours. I'd rather refer people who need a simple one-doc notarization done and serve people who have more complex needs.
T'other day I said, "If you can get to xxx in MyTown, they have a Notary on staff that will do a good job for you." "That's funny," the caller replied, "they just gave me your number!" The soonest all signers would be available was an hour after the storefront closed for the day.
Last night I referred a very lucrative loan signing to a fellow member of our very loose network. I couldn't do the signing due to previous commitments, but I knew that the need was urgent and the other NSA would do an outstanding job.

come on Doc, sing along...
hold it tight and you wouln't have any lend it spend and give it away and they'll roll all over the floor....
Being grateful for a refferal received is the first magic potion for business success...
but being generous to pass them out is the second.
That lady got something out of it too... The signer thinks she's smart just cause she knew you.
It's amazing what good biz it is just to be nice!

Re: Thanks for that! "Little Boxes" Here it is!
Malvina Reynolds 1. Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky-tacky, Little boxes, little boxes, Little boxes, all the same. There's a green one and a pink one And a blue one and a yellow one And they're all made out of ticky-tacky And they all look just the same. 2. And the people in the houses All go to the university, And they all get put in boxes, Little boxes, all the same. And there's doctors and there's lawyers And business executives, And they're all made out of ticky-tacky And they all look just the same. 3. And they all play on the golf-course, And drink their Martini dry, And they all have pretty children, And the children go to school. And the children go to summer camp And then to the university, And they all get put in boxes And they all come out the same. 4. And the boys go into business, And marry, and raise a family, And they all get put in boxes, Little boxes, all the same. There's a green one and a pink one And a blue one and a yellow one And they're all made out of ticky-tacky And they all look just the same.

Oh, Doc, thank you! Malvina was one of the greats.
For some reason, whenever I hear Rosalie Sorrells, I think of Malvina Reynolds.
A bunch of years ago, my friend Suzi (a plumber) called me to ask if I wanted to ride up to Rosalie's place - a little spread in one of the gulches north of Boise - to fix a problem with the loo. It was her 50th BD, and she was having a gathering that weekend. She invited us to stay, and we camped out with folks who came from all over; the famous, the infamous, and the just plain groovy. Music filled the dry, rocky canyon for two days and nights, and around the campfire one evening, I suggested "Little Boxes." With a nod to Utah Phillips, and in gentle, perfect harmony, they complied.
In reverie, Susie
