Brother HL 5140 print settings-guru needed

My old one broke down, and I had a new one in storage.
The new one is giving a shadow on the lower part of the page of what has been
already printed.
Any guru suggestions?

did you do a search? I believe this was discussed just recently.. and if my memory serves me....what you need to do is move the doohickey across and back all the way over.....

make sense?

I did move the doohickey.
This is only happening on legal sized pages, I found out this morning.
Letter sized are A-OK.
I love your definition of techincal parts.

I'll be cleaning it first, then if not working, call.
I was thinking maybe I had set it up wrong (printer halftone vs. system halftone, etc)
I have no idea what those terms mean, so I reset them for factory settings, w/o luck.
This is a brand new printer that has set in storage for 2 years.

It was a bad drum

I replaced the drum with an old drum, problem solved.
