Here's one for the books...
I had a customer call today for a general notarization, which is fine since I advertise that in my yellow pages ad. When I was giving her directions, I realized she would have to drive over an hour to meet with me and offered to give her the names of some closer notaries. She declined because she had apparently called every notary in Saint Lucie County, FL and asked them if they had a loose acknowledgment and not ONE notary she spoke with even knew what a loose acknowledgment was!!

I can't believe she called every notary in St Lucie county. I have at least one signing agent there I work with and they know about loose acknowledgments.
It doesn't surprise me that some notaries don't know about loose acknowledgments.

Why would a signer be asking about a loose acknowledgment? It doesn't make sense that the client was calling a listing without finding a notary with only the tiniest amount of experience. I would have asked why are you asking while waiting for a punch line.

Why is that so odd? The signer knew what she needed to have the document notarized - isn't that what we require from anyone who brings a document to us? What kind of "punch line" could you possibly be expecting?
I'm more surprised that none of the previous notaries she called had any idea of what she was talking about, but maybe there's just a huge gap in training.

The client called every Notary listed in the St. Lucie County YELLOW PAGES and not one knew what she was talking about. The client knew what she needed because two other Notaries had screwed up so bad that the client was given specific instructions from the drawer of the document to make sure a third Notary did not screw up.
I spoke with Melissa about this call today. Don't want to speak for her, but that's how it went down.

I get that frequently
Most of my clients drive around 1 hour one way to my office just because they are assured (by reading my website and speaking to me via phone) that I know how to properly notarize their documents. I have lots of repeat clients driving this distance.
I've even had clients drive over clients drive 4+ hours to work with me.
The long-drive clients often tell me they phoned many notaries closer to them who clearly did not understand what was needed.
One client took a puddle-jumper plane to work with me. He rented a car at the airport and drove to my office. I offered to meet him at the airport but he wanted to see a bit of this beautiful area and buy a gift for his wife before returning home.

REally?? Took a plane ride and rented a car because you are the only one in your state that knows how to notarize?
Is that how life works on your planet Laura? You've got to be kidding me? Please tell us you are pulling our leg. There is no way I can believe that.

Re: I get that frequently too
and I am not joking. I had a SS call me to do a last minute closing edocs...O.K. we agreed on everything & I'm waiting for docs. SS calls back "borrower is printing docs at work so she can read them over before I arrive, same fee" O.K. GREAT, I'm finally making a profit so I grab the GPS, my brief case and start to head out the door. SS calls back "borrower has a notary in the office next door and will take care of everything herself". Oh phooey, I lost out on an easy one I grumble and go back to what I was doing when this all started. Two hours later I get a call from the SS "Everything is being redone for tomorrow, apparently the notary was "overwhelmed" by it all and said he couldn't handle it and the borrower gave in to traditional methods used by SS. The borrower told me the next day even she didn't realize it wasn't quite as simple as just notarizing a page or two and said she learned to not be so quick as to attempt something she doesn't know anything about. And I have found this often. Sadly, for them, too many learn too late that they don't really "know it all".

Re: I get that frequently too
I used to have a low self esteem and thought I was stupid. After doing this job for many years, I think I am the smartest person on earth - compared to all the borrowers and other idiots I meet every day.

I am unsure where Ms. Vestanen lives, but
in my part of WA (the SW part) there are Notaries who are well versed in what is required to accomplish the task. She paints with a very wide brush.
