It just gets worse....

Had a call a few minutes ago, asked if I could do a closing on Mon in a town 150 miles away. Sure, I can do that. Good-since it's quite a ways from you we'll offer you more for it, we'll pay $75.00. As I'm choking and spraying Pepsi everywhere, I said the 1st thing that popped into my head- "This isn't Priceline and I don't offer the 'name your own price' option! My fee is XXX.00."
The caller acts all shocked and says "we can't pay that much" and I tell him I guess he'll have to find someone else. He gets very agitated and explains that they've been looking for someone for 2 days and NO ONE will go to this town. He adds 10.00 to the fee, I can't help it, I start laughing. Finally told him that I would go over there BUT he had to meet my fee, and if it cancelled I still got my full fee since gas is 3.25 a gallon, I didn't think it would be worth my time to go over, have them sign, drive back and then get just a "trip fee". He said there was no way they could do that. Told him- fine, then I can't do this for you. When he started yelling I hung up.

I hope that first X was a 2... I figure $50 just for gas... no tires, no oil, just gas...

$75 was stupid... then to add $10 he woulda been the one to hang up if he made me that offer.

When he calls you back (5pm today) raise your price.

I would rather spend the time with my kids than do it for less. I think it's funny when they get mad when they can't find anyone but aren't willing to pay the price.

Lol! Yep-It was actually closer to a 3. I don't have any prob getting a high fee for going to this town. I think if he does call back that 2 might go closer to a 4 just for the hassle and him having the nerve to yell at me because I wouldn't take his lowball 85 fee! (with the 10 extra he added.)

Gee ..... it almost sounds like paying your fee to get somebody (ANYBODY, apparently) to do the job would put him out of business .......

GOSH!

Is that why a couple to the less prosperous signing services I used to work for have stopped calling me while at the same time the title companies that used to use them are now calling me direct?

And offering the same price to me they paid the signing services ........
