I think your fee was fair and appropriate. Keep in mind, the notary who accepted the job may not be a NotRot member. If you really want to know who took the assignment, just wait a month or so and check w/the Probate judges office and view the recorded mortage document. I can do it online here in Alabama. My toughest competitors are NOT Not/Rot members.

Re: Why so bitter?
Bitter is not the point here. That same $90 company (and we all know who it is) called me today to do a closing that needed 2 mortgages printed and 2 of all affidavits, 2 HUDS and any docs relating to the HUD, and it was a split package on top of that. Of course, the scheduler didn't advise of all this when she called. When I received the confirmation, I noted all this "extra stuff" and called her back and told her $90 was not sufficient for this excessive printing and extra work. Her response, "Oh. So you won't do it for $90? I'll call another notary," and hung up. Yet, yet, yet folks, I had a call from the same co last week and the scheduler ask me if $90 was alright. Since it was about 1/2 a mile from me, and there was nothing unusual about the doc package, I agreed. I've done excellent work for this co for more than 4 years. I haven't lowered my standards or the quality of my work. They should not be treating their "established" notaries like they are a disposable diaper. Frankly, I'd love to know which low baller in my area took this closing. The last "mess" I cleaned up for a low baller, this notary went in and left the borrowers nothing but 1 RTC and 1 HUD - no other docs what-so-ever. And yet, I'll bet you a week's pay (which isn't much these days) that they'll keep calling that low ball notary because she's cheap. Just my 2 cents.
