Maximum Weight when shipping online (Fedex)
Hi. So, I'm done with my signing. There were two loans. The package that goes to the lender is about 1.5 lbs. However, the Fedex shipping system would not let me enter anything more than 1 lb. so it seems.
Should I split it into two packages? Or should I just enter 1 lb. Or should I select another package type (not envelope)?
Thanks, Ever

Select the "pak" instead of "envelope". Never split and ship docs in two packages.

When entering the airbill information, if ENVELOPE is selected, weight is NOT required. The max weight allowed (per FedEx) in the envelope is 8 ounces. (Says so, right on the envelope.) If the weight exceeds 8 oz. the next higher rate is used. UPS does not have a weight limit on their envelopes. If it fits, it ships at the envelope rate.
For larger document packages, I use the PAK. Those you have to enter weight. FedEx will charge the same anyway so it doesn't make much difference. Might as well use the better packaging.

I have heard that many high volume shippers, such......
as TC and lenders have a special deal with fedex , so that they pay the same for a envelope, (especially the legal size) no matter what the weight. I have gotten double pkgs with a return legal evenvelope stuffed inside, shipped to me a legal envelopes. I usually add a few strips of tape to the return envelope. Some cos insist on you using the legal envelopes to return pkgs and will "gig" you if you use a pak . I assume that this means they get a better rate for the envelope. One big TC that I work for has switched to DHL (I think that it stands for "Delivery Happens Late" For all of their shipments Limited # of drop boxes and locatiions compared to FEDEX and UPS and can not ship out on Sat. Late Friday signings will now be sent on Monday. I imaginge that DHL sold someone in exec office a bill of goods to save a few bucks. Curious how long it wil be until they switch back.

DHL
Thanks for the DHL update. I just dealt with an issue about a package being sent on Friday, got a frantic phone call on Monday, "where's the package?" DHL will never be truly in competition with the other couriers as long as they keep providing such second class service.
