NNA ???
I see many of the other Notaries belonging to one Association or the other, it has taken time to consider them all. Can anyone tell me what the actual benefits of belonging to say the NNA provides? Do they get or keep our cost up for the work that we accomplish, just what do they and others like them do, besides sell us additional supplies. Any imput would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

Use the orange button on the "Notary Talk" page to do a search.
Enter NNA.
You will see very clearly what we professional notaries think of them.

Associations
I've checked into quite a few associations because like you, I want to get my money's worth when I pay fees/dues. While the fees to become a Chamber of Commerce member is rather steep, I am seriously considering becoming a member because so many of their members fall into the industry bracket that I'm targeting. I'm currently an NNA member and I'm not ready to cancel my membership. I get enough business from my profile on that site to warrant continuing it at this time. That may change next year. We'll see. One thing I've learned, what works for one business owner may not necessarily work for another. Every marketplace is different.

Re: Associations, I'm curious Michelle...
I gave up my membership in the NNA a couple of year ago but I was a member of the NSA section because I had prepaid but all I ever got out them was the really crappy low-ball stuff. Are you a premium member of Notary Rotary? I find that 90% of my new business comes from this site and the balance from two other sites, I've never gotten anything I've accepted from NNA. If you are no a premium member, I might suggest that you try it out, it has certainly worked for me and I know it has for a number of others who frequently post here too!

Thanks Michelle, I tried to reply but it appears that right now there is a problem with the service. I'll try again later. TTFN

Thanks Zee, A cople of years ago I canoed to the Hudsons
Bay, tracing the route of the Voyageurs. There is a little cafe there called Munck's Cafe. There are actually more polar bears there than people. Munck's had to put up the bars to keep the bears out or the place, but they come by and look inside. Every once in a while I trade out my headshot with something else, many of my clients check to see what I've got up, which I just love. I usually do it on the weekends but I have been so busy lately, I forgot to change it back. Glad you enjoyed a peep in to my personal weirdness!

There'll be different one for this weekend
I've got friends flying in from Montana (Bozeman) and I suspect since the weather is foggy I'll have to go inland to pick them up. We only have on the coast and it doesn't have an instrument landing system. So I'm bailing out early to play tourguide.

"...just what do they and others like them do, besides sell us additional supplies."
I can find NOTHING else that they do for members. The info they give is most often incorrect and many times flat out false.
My opinion is that is that NNA should stand for "Nothing but Nonsense Association" or maybe they should change their initials to GUYM "Give Us Your Money" I think the change would fit them well.

I'm not renewing
if you want/need real advice that is actually based on fact (imagine that), the American Society of Notaries is usually spot on. The also have a newsletter, which contains actual articles that are pertinent, not just advertising.
This, of course, is my personal opinion.

Hi Maggie The NNA, as far as I am concerned is useless! They are just out there to con us out of our hard earned money in my opinion. I like the American Society of Notaries. For starters they are headquartered in Tallahassee and are very well up on Florida notary laws. They are always willing to answer your notary questions - and you get a good answer. Don Verbocy and Carly are really up on the notary laws. They have an excellent newsletter and will send tips of the month to your e-mail box twice a month, and they are always informative. They do sell discounted supplies as well. I can really recommend you join them.

Re: The benefit with nna is you pay them amd they do nothing for
It seems like what they do is more TO you, than FOR you. They just sent out another email this morning touting their offerings. (I'm not really sure why I'm still getting these as I haven't renewed in quite some time - maybe I'm still on their list of potential suckers...)
It looks like the next market they are going to try to plunder (jmho) are "legal professionals", as they are unveiling a new section. I'd be happy to see them moving on to someone else, but they also refer to the "overwhelming popularity" of their NSA training, and they are offering even more workshops at the conference. I'm sure they're making too much $$ off of hyping the NSA business to back off, even though the demand is slowing and there seems to be an oversupply of NSAs in at least most major metropolitan areas. Maybe they just need more NSAs who are willing to work for burger-flipping wages. ;> (No offense to anyone who is doing an honest job of flipping burgers vs. collecting a handout...)
