Northstar Notary. My experience.
On 4/25 at 6:20 pm I get a call from Viet from Northstar to do a signing 1 hour each way in the mountains ASAP with e-docs. I wasn't too thrilled so I quoted a high fee and told him that if he couldn't find anybody else that I would do it. A few minutes later he calls back and said that he couldn't find anybody else on such short notice could I do it because he was in a bind and this signing HAD to happen tonight or it wouldn't happen at all. I though about it. It's getting dark, just over an hours drive each into the mountains on a 2-way road with a high risk of running into a deer or a drunk. I didn't have anything going on so I said what the hell, I would do it but needed docs ASAP. We agreed on a fair fee. Docs are in my e-mail w/5 minutes so I print and head out the door. After getting lost by the borrowers home for 20 minutes, we start signing at 8:50pm. The non-signing boyfriend is drunk off his a** and kept interrupting his girlfriend (the signer) the whole time she was signing (on a serving tray for a table). Thankfully he was one of those happy drunks so it was pretty funny. We finished signing and the boyfriend thanks me repeatedly for making it out there and tells me of other notaries not coming through, lender lagging, broker hiding, same ole' story. He says "you must be hungry" and tells his girlfriend to make me a to-go plate. The girlfriend happily packs me a dinner and I leave. It was a delicious beef stew with garlic bread. I ate it immediately when I got home and it was still warm.
Anyway, back to Northstar. After I accpetded the signing I saw the negative remarks about them on this website so I contacted Viet and told him about it. He assured me I would get paid. I did the signing on 4/25/07 and received payment on 5/16/07.
I would work for them anytime.
