OT and Long-Taxes

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his @ss

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,
" Taxes drove me to my doom..."

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle
class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What the h$!! happened? Can you spell "politicians!"

And I still have to "press 1" for English.

Lisa that is the best I've seen in a long time! I'd like to copy it and send it to my newspaper, did you write it yourself or find it somewhere? Don't want to get in trouble or generate a 'copy tax' for using it without permission NaNa

ps. Vermont is considering taxing home heating oil to pay for a study or some such stupid thing to combat global warming.

What are the odds of there ever being another gas war in Wisconsin with laws like this in place?

Re: A Related Story...

Thanks for the link Dennis. I did not see this. There is another gas station owner in Shawano, WI that has lower gas prices and according to rumor, he doesnt care what anyone says. Hes going to charge what he wants. Another gas station in Shawano Cty is about 11 cents cheaper, supposedly on an Indian Reservation. The further north you go, the more expensive it gets.
As far as gas wars, sometimes I think there is price fixing going on around here with all the gas stations.

Smells like a violation of the Sherman Anitrust Act

The Sherman Act provides: "Every contract, combination in the form of trust or otherwise, or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, is declared to be illegal".[2] The Act also provides: "Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony [. . . ]"[3] The Act put responsibility upon government attorneys and district courts to pursue and investigate trusts, companies and organizations suspected of violating the Act.

The Act was intended to prevent arrangements designed to, or which tend to, increase the cost of goods to the consumer. It was not specifically intended to prevent the dominance of an industry by a specific company, despite misconceptions to the contrary. According to Senator George Hoar, an author of the bill, any company that "got the whole business because nobody could do it as well as he could" would not be in violation of the act. The law attempts to prevent the artificial raising of prices by restriction of trade or supply

Here's a Link to an Article...

...which provides some great background information on the price of gas as the "drive-by media" reports it.
