The Final Step
Has anyone had trouble receiving payment from the "The Final Step" I am trying to see what actions I need to take to get my checks from this company.

Cheryl Use the orange search button. There was a recent thread regarding payment problems with The Final Step.

Did a signing for them on 3/16/07. They paid me on 5/21/07. They say their pay schedule is 30-60 days. Obviously they are behind.

I have never understood why a signing company waits 30-60 days to pay its signing agents. The signing company should be paid off the HUD and receive their check after the rescission period is over. If a signing company only bills its title companies/lenders once a month, it still should not take up to 60 days to pay the signing agent. The signing agent should be paid ASAP when they have completed the signing. They have bills to pay too, and cannot tell their creditors to wait 30-60 days for their money.

Most SS don't have the funds to pay right away(a bad business practice)since they are operating with the credit we as notaries extend them on every signing.

I have said all along that those who start a signing service should make sure they have the capital to go into the business. They should not be operating on credit. I can sleep at night knowing my signing agents are all paid in a timely manner. No one has had to wait over a week for their check. (except for postal delays). I send checks out every Saturday, so even if a signing was completed on Friday night, the check would still go out the next day. If they had the capital to start with, and not bit off more than they could chew, they would be able to pay their signing agents right away.

I have stopped accepting assignments from The Final Step LLC. They still owe me two payments from signings done at the beginning of June 2007. When I contacted them (numerous times) about an April fee that was over 75 days past due, I finally got the following story: "unfortunately we had financial issues , we lost 5 or more companies last and this year ., notaries not following instructions and this companies just paying $90 per closing ." Interestingly enough, the check I finally received on 07/12/2007 for the April signing fee was backdated to 05/30/2007....looks a little fishy to me.
