Commonwealth Title in VB

The one in Va Beach is owned by a very dear friend of mine named Gene Hooks. He is wonderful and his compnay has a very good reputation here. I highly recommend taking on their work....

Re: Title Company in VA/ New in Virginia question

I have not worked for this company. But, I wanted to grab you because I am assuming you are in Va. I just moved here from Alabama. I just received my commission and am ordering my supplies right now. My question is/are: should I order an embosser only, or a stamp? Should I get E&O, and bonded, since Va doesn't require it but maybe title companies and ss's do? I have been doing signings in Alabama for some time but trying to get acurate info on Va has been hard. Any website or link suggested would be wonderful!!
Thanks for any help, and have a great Memorial Day everyone.

Re: VA has some new regs effective July 2007

We are all somewhat in the dark and are eagerly awaiting the official letter that is coming from the SOC. If you are a member of the ASN you can look up the changes for Virginia on their website. I believe they are also posted here: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?071+ful+CHAP0269

Currently, a stamp or embosser is not required in VA. However, one of the new regulations is that we must use a photographically reproducible seal, so if someone uses an embosser, my take is that they would have to apply ink to make it photographically reproducible. My suggestion is to purchase the Stingray stamp from NotRot (that's what I use).

Re: Title Company in VA/ New in Virginia question

I forgot to add that VA does not require a bond or E&O, however I do carry $25,000 E&O by choice. I would like to carry more, but the cost is high in this state. I do get asked to provide bond and E&O information from time to time. When asked for bond info, I write "not required in Virginia".

Re: Title Company in VA/ New in Virginia question

Thanks for the info. Do you think not having E&O to start out with would keep me from getting jobs? Everyone I am currently signed with asked for copies of my bond and E&O. I should probably contact them directly and give my new details. I think because of the upcoming regulations, the Stingray looks to be what I need. So thank you very much for your input. Are there any associations for local (Richmond) or state notaries I should be aware of? Did you get you E&O from local insurance or online?
Take care!

Re: Title Company in VA/ New in Virginia question

Another thing you may want to be aware of is that alot of attorneys/title companies are requiring that the notary be crespa certified. I know that some do not agree because you only have to be certified if you collect funds but some companies are making it mandatory if you want to be a somewhat "exclusive" closer for them so they don't have to use you (for example) if they know this is just a cash out refi and then have to use someone else because the borrower is bringing certified funds to the table.

I am running for the crespa certification now and hope it doesn't take me until I am gray to get it.

Loretta,
I had actually forgot all about the crespa thing! Yes, I will probably get certified, but I just want to get up and running asap. Single all of a sudden and need to make money fast!!
Where do you suggest I "take a class" on it?
Thanks

Re: Title Company in VA/ New in Virginia question

Jeana, more and more of us are looking into CRESPA certification. However, I am rarely asked if I am CRESPA certified (I'm not) and I do fine without having the certification. That doesn't mean to say I will never become certified, I just have no plans to do so right now and you do not need that to get started, especially since you are experienced. See messages # 178060 and 190560 for more info.

As far as state networks, you can go to Yahoo Groups and search for a group called virginianotarynetwork.

Thanks for all the responses. I went to the yahoo group.
CopperheadVa, do you think the moderator would let me in with only 75 signings under my belt?
Have a great and safe Momorial Day weekend!
