What an evening... long...

Put in a 14 hour day on Wednesday, got a call from a title company at 4:45 PM for a closing that was suppose to take place at 5:00. I could not make it by 5:00, I had a RESPA signing at 5:30. TC was desperate, they offered to pay me TWICE my normal fee for this closing. I agreed to do as soon as I finished with the RESPA. So, docs were sent to a UPS store, I arrive at 6:30 PM to pick up docs. The only girl working that day did not know how to get docs to print. GREAT! Call TC, they are sending them to staples, 3 miles down the road. Get to Staples and they have arrived. This printer, mind you, was bigger than my Montero, and it took 40 minutes to print and copy the package. I arrive at the closing at 8:30 PM to find the Loan Officer and a companion that had traveled 4 1/2 hours to be present at this closing that was suppose to take place at 5:00 PM and they had been sitting there with the Seller and the Buyers since 5:00. I expected them to be very angry, but they were the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. It turns out that they had another notary that agreed to do this closing. At 4:30 PM she called and told them that she had "a romantic dinner planned with her husband" and if they wanted this loan to close they need to drive 65 miles to meet her at her home. The seller was an elderly lady that had a mentally handicapped son and she could not travel to meet her. The LO was so mad at this other notary, but thank goodness he did not take it out on me. He just kept thanking me for agreeing to do this on short notice. When we got to the HUD statement, he noticed my fee from the TC, which in my opinion was a very good fee, double what I would have normally charged for this closing. He said it was unacceptable and he would personally make sure I would compensated even more from his company. He took my business card so he would have my address and said that he will be using me exclusively from now on in my area. We didn't finish the closing until 9:45 PM and he had a 4 1/2 hour drive home!

Kudos to you. What hoops we sometimes go through to accomodate. Glad it all worked out and you get lots of business from them. Have you thought about a mobile office? Might pay off for you in situations like these. I haven't gone mobile yet, but seriously thinking about it. Saves lots of time and hassles with printing issues like you had.

I love this story, Chrystal. Makes being an SA all worthwhile. The other notary should be kicked to the curb.

How much did you pay for printing at staples?

And, if the girl at the UPS store couldn't figure out how to print, did she at least know how to DELETE??? I think that's the more important question...not to keep beating that POOR HORSE -- LOL!

Re: Hattie..

I paid for the printing with my debit card, 88 pages x 2 @ .09 cents per page was like $16.79 or so. Since they were paying double my fee, I ate this one!

That's one of the nicest and most uplifting stories I've read in a LONG time. I'm so glad for you, and I hope you get some good business from this broker. I don't know you, but you sound like my kind of Notary. Good for you!!!!
