here is a first...

had a signing where the borrower had to use her mouth to sign, she didn't have the use of her hands- now that is talent! and the signing was completed in aabout 15 minutes.

In many states, it is perfectly legal for a person who is...

incapable, or finds it very difficult to sign their name: to
direct another person (including the notary), in their presence,
to sign on their behalf. This is not a POA type signature.
The circumstances, should, of course, be noted in your journal.

"Signature by Mark" may be the name of one type of act, ...

... and Bob_Chicago is (as always) correct that it will vary by state.

Be very sure that your state law will allow you (the Notary) to be the one to do the actual writing!
