what is up with printing these packs

does anyone know what is going on with the printing of some of these pdf packages? i am updated with the most recent version of adobe. I have pc/printer configured with printer/postscript and printer/pcl and am able to switch between them - however some packages print normally and others have excruciatingly long print times. only seeing problems with pdf's that are emailed to me. otherwise - all other print softwares are speedy. when printing over 200 pages of docs for a single closing, and 3 jobs back-2-back, docs arriving at the last minute - i'm sure u see the problem. -maybe- it is the way they are scanning them in. maybe the version they are using, or how they are saving the files. i dont know but is anyone else experiencing these difficulties?

You are correct. It is the way some scan them in. If they scan them in as image files, it does take forever to print.

It's the way the lender/title company saves them

I think we've all experienced that problem, and it always seems to be when you are swamped and docs are late that you get one package that prints slower than molasses in January. I've tried all the tips posted on this and other forums over the past 2 or 3 years, and none will speed up the printing very much. If I have time (usually not), and if I'm going to be going past a copy place like Office Max or Staples, I'll print one set and then take that to the copy center and make copies there.
Some notaries can afford and have the resources to set up two laser printers, and they print one set on each printer when they run into these types of packages.

Re: It's the way the lender/title company saves them

well (3) jobs back-2-back today. 1st package slowwwwww - 2-slowwwwww and 3rd well we dont know yet cause we cant get to it - because the 2nd is still printing---40 minute drive between each location--- i really dont mind being late -- its all in a day for me. but, the BO 's and the 2 witnesses (i'm sure) dont appreciate it one bit. please - title companies, lenders, and other agencies - can u guys help by not saving or scanning in that way. if it has to be done, then why can't you tell us ahead of time for petes sake - maybe we can push the times back. my gosh, good grief, , , by the way the 2nd is still printing - geeze Smile

I have to get up and walk away

because if I sit there, my blood pressure goes off the scale. I have two printers and one does print slightly faster than the other, but I just want to scream.

If your printer allows for memory to be added this might be

the solution you're looking for. Printer memory is very reasonably priced and for me was a good investment in time and sanity.

I've been told (and/or I've read) that using PCL 5e will print these image-scanned pdfs faster. My last signing was one but it was pretty fast even with PCL 6. You might want to try PCL 5e if your printer has a driver for it.

Ever

This has worked very well for me. I also change the quality mode to 300 dpi from 600, which PCL 5e allows for on my printer. The print quality isn't as sharp, naturally, but it prints very much faster. (I sometimes do about 30 pages at a time.) BTW, I think I was able to download the PCL 5e driver from the HP website.

I also learned tonight (from a very pc saavy borrower) that if you have Vista, it sends to your printer faster, increasing the likelihood that your printer will run out of memory before completing the print job! I will very soon be shopping for either addl memory for my printer - or for a new printer (or both)!!

I am going to assume ...

that when you say latest version, its Adobe 8 and that when you upgraded, you completely uninstalled the previous edition using the add / remove programs feature in control panel.

When your print dialog box comes up, go to advanced and choose "print as image". Also, when you go into printing preferences, make sure it is set to spool the print job and also to begin printing immediately. That will use your computer to buffer the print job. Having at least a gig of memory in your computer doesn't hurt, either

Re: I am going to assume ...

Is there any way to tell BEFORE you start printing, that the PDF was scanned as an image, and therefore will print slower? Or do you just choose "print as image" every time?

Definitely choose "Start printing immediately"

as Glenn suggests. When I was trying different things to work out all the kinks, I chose "Start printing after last page is spooled." Thereafter, my printer would no longer automatically switch back and forth from letter to legal, even though my trays were properly designated and I had checked the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" box. I couldn't figure out why, and boy, was that a pain. I finally remembered that I had made that one change recently, so I changed it back to "Start printing immediately," and my problem was solved. Can't tell you why; I can only say it worked to solve the issue.

I used to use "Print as image," but with some other changes that have improved things, for some reason, this doesn't work for me anymore. I get an error message after one page prints.

The PCL6 driver rarely works for me for PDFs. I have much more success with the PCL5e. But I really think the source of most of our problems is the way these PDFs are created which makes them these huge mega-MB docs. In checking for problem resolutions on the Adobe site, I see suggestions for the creation of more "efficient" documents for purposes of printing. I'm betting most creators have no clue about that. Bless those that do.

I think what I really need to do is add more memory. I put that off because it's not something I'm familiar with doing. I'll get around to that someday.

scanned as?

You can tell if the doc was scanned as text by doing a search or a find from within adobe and then selecting a word in the document.
If the file was scanned as an image it won't be able to find anything.
