Be aware--don't fall into this trap
Someone send me an email from India with couple of pages attached to be notarized and his passport page and drivers license copy for identification, he expected me to notarize the couple of legal pages for him without even seeing him in New York while he is in India and he instructed me to send the notarized pages to a company in Florida. I was numb, I said you have to be joking, he was not he was serious. I hope no one will fall into this type of trap, it can very well be identity fraud, I smelled danger.....I refused him and cut him off immediately.

Is this really something that warrants a warning?
I guess I have a warning for the group too. If you decide to paint your living room, be sure not to drink the paint! It goes on the walls, not in your belly!

What trap?
Why would you even have to think about this? You can't do it, so there's no reason to even reply to him; just delete the message and move on.

How is this a trap?
He isn't going to show. You move on.

I would have advised him that it would be illegal for me to comply with his request. That CA notary laws require that the signer be in front of me.
This shouldn't be a "trap" for any CA Notary. Very explicit laws - SIGNER MUST PERSONALLY APPEAR BEFORE THE NOTARY. No other response needed.
