Final Step Poll
I know everyone is tired of these guys, and thier posts, but the Lending Tree Prez. told me he wasn't using them anymore until all thier bills were paid to us. Was wondering if anyone in the last month or so has received any calls from them to do work, is Lending tree actually following through.

I don't think that they are usinf Final Step anymore. I do know that they don't wanna pay the SS that they do use any more than $115.00 per closing.
How can a SS make any monies that way ? I don't know.

Lending Tree (Home Loan ) pays $90 for over-night and $115 for edoc to their vendors ( SS).The SS in turn pay the notaries $50 and $90 for edoc ( valume work). SOX and The Final Step have not paid their notaries and they are dropped by Lending Tree. Lending Tree has to change it's fee and vendor policy and hire reputable SS. I think the last remaining ss for lending tree is Notarise 24/7 which by the way still paying their notaries.

I spoke with Final Step and they told me one of their clients bounced a big check on them and they're pursuing a loan to pay their outstanding invoices to their notaries. Don't know if that's true or not. They have paid slow in the past but they always paid after a phone call.

Same line different month, and I have placed numerous calls to them and emails and nothing. All of the advice that has been given here I have tried. Lending Tree says it is tried of notaries calling about this company. Same line from them to me "they will not get any of our business until he pays his notaries" Oh yes do not call Fianl Step names they get testy about that, I did and now he refuses to talk or responed to me at all. What has happened is that is used the funds the he should of paid us for and done other things, what I do not know and at this point Final Step in probably in their final step..........

I too am being "played" by Final Step. Yesterday, I went on the BBB for Maryland and looked up Final Step. I was surprised to see that there wasn't one single complaint against them. With all the complaints listed on the "Boards", I expected to find something filed against them. Seeing none, I felt compelled to step up and submit a complaint. When I was done with the BBB, I then E-mailed the S o S's Office in Maryland and filed a question/complaint with them. (I don't like to be cheated) I hope this gets the ball rolling in Maryland and brings this low-life onto the carpet with the SoS. Time will tell.

I'm not surprised - most people just do not follow through and that's what these no-pay companies count on. I was stiffed by a company earlier this year and managed to find 6 other notaries that were owed also. I asked them several times to complain to the BBB and to rate them in Signing Central here on NotRot. Not one of them ever did it.

I've said this before but perhaps there's a different audiance now.
Ever notice how a SS's name implies, in many cases, how you'll be paid?
In this case.."The Final Step" is trying to collect what is owed you.

Very good............. I was thinking along the same lines. The Final Step for him is depositing OUR money into HIS bank account.

I filed a complaint with the BBB sometime ago on this and several other deadbeats. The reply from all was the same. They do not get involved in business to business transactions and Notary Publics are considered business to business. As far as I'm concerned its a waste of time to contact BBB. I also found out that when you put in your rating onnotary rotary and ask not to have it for public information than it is not counted in the ratings. That is why some companies have higher ratings than they could possibly deserve.

I have a contact rather high in the Lending Tree org. I was told that The Final Step has been paid for every job. They have also received multiple complaints, but wonder of wonders they are still providing work to The Final Step. Why? Because they can - yes it is believed there is funny biz going on; what can you do about it? Let every notary know about The Lending Tree and The Final Step. Let them know they undercut what is considered standard fees for the notaries and then they don't pay them.
The SOS in Maryland will do nothing. Why? The Final Step does not employ and is not registered as a notary! They are simply an LLC that is provided with multiple layers of protection. I tried to file a BBB complaint & also a complaint with the SOS; they refused to assist me. All that you can do is save your money on phone calls and faxes to The Final Step and place that money into a lawsuit in the Small Claims Court system in Maryland. Make sure other notaries flood the courts with claims. If The Final Step does not respond to your claim then the judge will default in your favor. At least when The Final Step gets to bankruptcy court and has not paid their debt to you - you have a snowballs chance.........
Let the Feds know about The Lending Tree and their shady business practices (hiring SS that they KNOW are not paying the notaries).
Lastly - do not accept work, even if you are starving do not accept work from them.
Good luck in the new year.
