GPS- finally did it!

I just bought a Garmin Street Pilot 330 from ebay. It is dark here now at 6pm and I am getting lost in subs and just cant do it again this year! So...I broke down and made the purchase. I went through an ebay retailer. Hope this is not advertising...Blue Bay Electronics. It is factory re-conditioned with everything that you need. 1 year warranty. They have some with a "buy it now" $169.00. With shipping is was $200.00 ( I hope that this is the best $200 that I have ever spent) And its a tax write-off!Smile Should be here on Wed...and I cant wait to use it! I think that it was a good deal! Just wanted to share the info.

I purchased the C530 and love it, though it does have its faults at times, new streets etc. but the catch is when you go to download new maps it costs almost 70.00. But it still helps me alot.

I had NO idea it was that expensive to update. Anyway....the new construction is at a stand still here....big homecondo builder just went under...and there are so many commericial vacanicies...that they are giving it away. I should be fine for a while!

I have the same model - you'll love it. Got mine as a gift last Christmas, but it sounds like you got a really good price....

Only thing I would recommend is to replace the windshield mount with the portable mount (also available on eBay). There have been increasing reports of cars being broken into because the windshield mount is visible, even if the GPS isn't in the car. You definitely don't want to advertise that you have a GPS on board...

Re: GPS- finally did it! Prob a silly question, but.....

Don't know beans about 'em, but how are they installed? Do-it-yourself?

Re: GPS- finally did it! Prob a silly question, but.....

There's nothing to install - you turn it on, it connects to the GPS satellites and you're good to go.... All you need to do is enter the address you want to go to; the GPS knows where you are and figures out how to get you there.

A GPS is the first luxury purchase a signer should make

I got mine in 2005 and it made all the difference because I have no sense of direction.

Just a fabulous invention!!

I also do a Google for directions to see how long it will take and the miles involved.

Re: GPS- finally did it! Prob a silly question, but.....

I've got to invest in one....these prices are sounding better. Had a notary assignment this week and Mapquest, once again, gave me the wrong county road number. Had to stop at a gas station less than 1/10 of a mile from my destination.... at a gas station in the middle of "the woods" and call the client (also went inside the station to ask how to get to CR----- she did not know) Told the client where I was (in location) and she didn't know the location, then the lady behind the counter at the station said "Tell her you are at T.J. Fatbellies".... well, then all was well.

Client had to explain how to go past the horse statue (I never saw)... and yada, yada. to get me to the location.

This past weekend, someone posted that it is "foolish" not to have a GPS..... I felt very foolish. and pissed at myself....... it is not a necessity but dang,,,, it is when you are in the woods!!

Re: GPS- finally did it! Prob a silly question, but.....My

Garmin gives me distance off and ETA, of course it doesn't compute for traffic unfortunately.

Stay away from the Magellan 2000.

I've got one, and it is horrible. It tacks on an additional 100 miles everytime we go to a horse show, so I print maps out and go via Mapblast and just use the gps to find various turns, etc for those long trips. Now locally, it's good and bad. It will take you the long weird way everytime, and in North Raleigh, Goldsboro, and many other areas, it tells you to turn on the wrong road in 2 miles. And if you don't pay attention 2 miles turns to 4 miles, etc. There are also areas where the turn arrow goes to the right for the next turn, but the "pink follow me color" turns left. (You have to go with the follow me color). It's better than printing maps every time. Since Outlook added the map feature to the outlook calendar, I map everything that way no too and is syncs to my Blackberry so when my GPS is out there, I can still find my way.

I've had the Garmin 2620 for 3 years and would be lost without it... especially now that I'm developing cataracts and things are not as clear as they once were. Love my Garmin!
