Hints & Tips
Hints & Tips: Properly Advise Signers Of Your Function
By Phillip W. Browne [e-mail address] NSA Now: Issue #96 — November 2007 While Most Notary Signing Agents perform their duties professionally and responsibly, some Signing Agents — either unknowingly or deliberately — step over the line into the unauthorized practice of law and face severe penalties. No matter how much a signer begs or pleads, NSAs cannot explain the contents of a document or tell a borrower if the interest rate is too high, the terms of the loan are questionable, the closing costs are excessive, or offer any other interpretation of the package.
That’s why the NNA recommends that Signing Agents present the signer or signers with a copy of the “Notary Signing Agent Pledge of Ethical Practice” at the beginning of each assignment. This pledge, which all Notary Signing Agent Section Members can download and print by logging into the member community at NationalNotary.org, says:
“I am not an attorney and therefore, by law, I cannot explain or interpret the contents of any document for you, instruct you on how to complete a document or direct you on the advisability of signing a particular document. By doing so I would be engaging in the unauthorized practice of law, and could face legal penalties that include the possibility of incarceration. Any important questions about your document should be addressed to the lender, title company or an attorney.”

Are You Trying to Make a Point...
...with your continual reference of the NNA, Demore? If so would you just explain it to us in your own words. If I want to read the latest NNA propaganda I can find my way to their web site on my own.

Re: Are You Trying to Make a Point...
I would think by your post you are a big fan of NNA, this is information most of us already know without going to the NNA. I am guessing you are trying to help, but most here are not big fans as you appear to be,but thanks for effort.

Thank you for your response. I would like to add that your statement is not true! How can you assume such thing? I am not a fan of NNA. I am a person who enjoy to read and share information without plan to attack anybody inteligence. If, for any reason you feel offended about NNA information, I am very sorry that you did like or read this information.
It was a friendly intention. This is all about communicating . . .

Denmore First - welcome to this forum. It is nice to welcome new members.
Please read the messages on the board, there is a wealth of information on here. Know that the majority of the board are opposed to the NNA.
You will learn more from the posts on this board than you ever will from the NNA.

Re: Absolutely NOT! Welcome also but it is usually a good
idea to spend a little time reading and learning about a community before making comments. So what part of Italy are you from? Italy is one of my favoriet countries, I've listed real estate in the Firenze area including a gorgeous villa in Scarperia.

I Apologize...
...if I came across too strong, as it's become very apparent your actions were well intended. As others have mentioned, the NNA is not well received by a great number of posters on this board. Welcome to the rough & tumble world of the NotRot message board!

Re: Hints & Tips - I got an accidental pm from Demore
yesterday and I think what she is trying to do is just offer ideas to the board...not sure, but that's what I think.
By her own admission in her pm to me she's not familiar with the board and perhaps is a little over the top by offering NNA propaganda...which she may be new to also and not realize that many of those here don't necessarily love the NNA.

I just get tired
of newbies coming in and trying to "educate" me on things I've known for years. Unless it is something that is truly new and innovative, we've all seen it, know it or have been doing it for ages.
Just because it is new to you, doesn't mean it's news.
I applaud your tenacity though, you will go far.

Sorry!
It is interesting to know the level of TOLERANCE that some people are enduring nowdays. It becomes kind of worries me very much this new type of agressive behavior. This can be discribed as stress and/or burn out! It makes me sad to know that some people does not 'know how' to offer understand to others. Demore

This is not intended as bashing but you need to read the
guidelines. Welcome to the Notary Talk General Discussion Forum. Before posting, please read the Rules and Guidelines. It says so at the top of the page. It is quite obvious that you did not read the rules and guidelines before posting. There is a search button at the top of the page where you have the ability to search what was said before. This site was not established to either provide help getting into to the business nor as a support group for newbies. This site primarily consists of experienced notaries and they are not the ones who do not know hod to offer understanding to others. Understanding is not one of the guidelines of this site. It is not professionalism when you post without having an idea of the culture on the site you are also opening yourself up to be told otherwise and that is what happened. Most of the notaries on this site are the most understanding, open, friendly and kind people around. I don't believe it is too much to ask someone new to at least find out what the site is about before they try to impose their own standards on it.

Re: I just get tired
Demore, I think the reaction would have been much different if you had just posted to introduce yourself. But your very first posts on this board, although well meaning, were offering information as if it would be something that we didn't already know. If you had come here as a new person wanting to learn, instead of presuming to teach the experts (many, but not all who post here), no one would have been "offended" or upset with you -- unless you went to the other extreme and expected others to teach you everything. That is what usually happens here and I guess we should appreciate the fact that you did not do that!
Now that you know how many of us feel about the NNA, we can go forward. As others have probably suggested, it would be a great idea to go back and read the tons of information that has been previously posted here. The orange search button at the top is also a very valuable tool. Best of luck. We all need it in this market!!
