I said No Thanks, am I dumb??

I got a call from Precision Closings.. they wanted me to do a RESPA signing tonight at
9pm for $50.. I said No Thanks.. I mean, maybe this ONLY happens to me, but it seems
like the RESPA's take LONGER than a full mortgage closing! They always say, Well, you
don't have to actually notarize anything, but the problem is, This is usually the First time
the borrower has had anyone in front of them, 1st documents, all these What IF Disclosures
and they always have TONS of questions.. then ya have to wait while they dig out all the
bank statements, paystubs, taxes, that the Lender wants copies of.. seriously it can take
more than 2 hours and I'd be with these people until 11pm! Then alot of these places want
you to go right home and start faxing them crap before you FedEx the package in..
$50 is not worth it to me.. Am I being dumb? Be honest please!

I've done a couple of these for $75, but you're right, it's never as quick as they say it will be.

Not dumb at all

In theory $50 should be acceptable for these signings because it's like 10 pages that should get you in and out in 20 minutes. But the reality is exactly how you described it, they never have everything ready that they're supposed to have ready and they seem to take me a minimum of an hour every time I've done them. So I stopped doing them.

If a company wants to pay the same as a full signing for them, sure, bring em on. But they don't.

Re: Not dumb at all

I agree with Cali, especially at 9PM. The last one of those I did, I made sure I went over all of the items that were needed before I arrived. BO said he had everything ready, no problem.

He had nothing ready, he had not even begun to look for the papers he needed. Then, he had to copy all of the stuff on his little ink jet copier. He also copied every page of the docs he was signing b/c they did not include copies for him. I was mad I didn't have a book with me.

Re: Not dumb at all

every RESPA Ive gotten has been minimum 45 pgs - several were closer to 60 - and I am not exaggerating.. and Yes, we are told NOT to leave copies with the borrower and that always Freaks them out too.. You have to deal with them digging thru files cuz they never have it done like they are asked to before hand.. But Im sure Precision will find someone else to be a Pushover and they will do it..
Sometimes I wonder, what really do we get for representation and protection, paying that membership fee to the NNA?? It still seems like its "Lets find the Lowest Bidder" - nothing like the strength of being in a Union.
Well, I hope these companies get what they pay for!

Re: "Representation and protection"???Surely you jest!

I take my last appointment at 7pm most of the time. To book with me at 8pm the pay has to be really good. I have only worked some 9pm a few times....and it is hell. There are problems....and it is just wierd to be at a BO house at 9pm at night. No you are not crazy!

"Then, he had to copy all of the stuff on his little ink jet copier."

I don't blame him for wanting copies. This has been ingrained in me since I was very young. Always get copies of what you signed.

Is it usual for companies not to provide a BO copy? If this is the case, should we make a copy for BO before going out?

When the borrowers don't have their info ready I get on the horn right away to the broker and tell them, I only have 30 minutes alloted for Respas; the borrowers do not have their paperwork ready and 9 times out of ten they say....don't worry about it, they can fax it later, just get the papers signed. So that is what I do. I then call who contracted me and reiterate what I was told and I am out of there. I have NEVER seen a 10 page Respa package they are always 50-60 pages. I would love a 10 pager!:-)

I won't take less than $80 for a RESPA. Way too much work and way too many questions. And yep, they never have anything ready.

Nope, I won't do them for $50

They aren't always quick. People are seeing info for the first time, and there's usually some info to fill out.

Good thing that you turned them down. I did two signings for them in the last couple of months and got a check for 1/2 the fees stating they are going bankrupt due to market conditions and not getting paid by companies. Very disappointing. The fees were low to begin with and then to get paid 1/2 but I guess 1/2 is better than nothing.
