Moderated vs. Censored - Diane Cipa

I read your article about the way you feel NR censored you on the NNA blog entry. Consider for a moment that they might have been moderating the post because it referred to your blog and it wasn't the content they were censoring.

I have never, ever seen Harry back off of an NNA subject and in fact, he will state hard facts about the NNA that no one else will.

If you want to generate traffic to your blog, the best way here is to link to your profile on NR and put your link inside your profile. I generate a lot of traffic to my site that way...and we both know traffic increases popularity...which is the product prolific posters like myself must be careful not to abuse. Also, if you want to push something here, run it by Harry and he'll tell you yes or no...meaning, if you wanted to link to your site a lot in postings, it's best to run it by him first.

Using your notary profile link...that's the way it's pretty much done here because this isn't a blog, it's a notary database and forum. If it isn't moderated against traffic being taken away from their site, against notary name harvesters, and against opportunity sellers and so forth, it isn't in the best interest of this forum...which is an enterprise and a family run business and operated in the best interest of the owners.

The way I see it, freedom of speech isn't exactly a point here. I'll bet if you had posted the content of your article rather than your blog link nothing would have been done. Use the "contact us" link below at the bottom of this page and you'll probably receive an answer. Sometimes, if they are busy, it can take two or three days.

I appreciate the insight you've brought to the board...I even enjoyed yours and Charles' debate even though some others thought it would have been handled via email. Once you figure out the lay of NR land, I doubt you'll ever be deleted again.

Thanks, Brenda. I appreciate the insight. I've linked to my blog and other sites in the other comments I've made here and this if the first time something was deleted. Posting links to other blogs is a common way to connect sites in the blogosphere. Bloggers generally prefer it and may post a sentence or two just to give the gist along with the link. The free movement between sites generates lots of free thought and so I didn't understand that the protocol here was different. I will comply in future posts.

I don't know Harry, but thank you for letting my know it's his gig. Harry, you should know that I have included many many links to Notary Rotary on my blog and that I have had a few other notary platforms ask me to get more involved on their sites to which I replied that there was something about Notary Rotary that I liked. Though I have perused other sites, yours has an ease of use and friendly visual quality for which you should be commended. That's not easy to attain. If you were to look at my business web site, you'll find a similar look and feel - blue and white - not too fancy schmancy.

As to the discourse with Charles, most sites enjoy that kind of exchange when it's topical and not personal, but if that's not the preferred method, I won't engage. My intention was to offset his opinion with an entirely different perspective on the impact of the law. It disturbs me when parties lobbying for their own benefit attempt to inflame others to their cause without clarity. IF what he said was true - that the business of NSAs was entirely dependent upon mortgage brokers whose livelihoods depended on subprime and on the overuse of YSPs THEN the argument would have merit. I think the discourse narrowed his position to that area and so any NSA who was fully dependent on a subprime style brokerage would get the message and lobby against the bill. Most of the chat I hear on Notary Rotary supports integrity in lending and often expresses deep concern about the practices of predatory lending and in that spirit, I think the bill should win support here. Disagreement is healthy and makes you think, then YOU decide what YOU think is best.

Thanks again for the clarity and I apologize if I offended Harry. It was not my intention.

I am glad to see you'll be posting in the future. I am interested in what you have to say. It takes me awhile to digest all sides of the argument so I am not sure where I am yet on HR 3915.

You can easily create a dedicated readership here who will give you feed back on your blogging by posting regularly, completing your profile and promoting your blog inside inside your profile.

As to your remarks on my website...ummm...you're nice to say that...really...but it's pretty bad, actually...but it gets so much google play that I am hestitant to change a thing about it.

I enjoyed it Diane! But there were some curmudgeonly

comments made about bandwidth we wasted. You just can't please everybody. As long as I please the few I like I'm happy Smile The rest can go whistle Dixie! I know that your post was deleted because of the link to your blog which violates the terms of use. I have asked permission in the past to advertise on a very limited basis and have received it. If you check the terms of use you will see the statement regarding advertising. Profiles get a lot of hits here and as Brenda said that is where advertising should go.

I enjoyed it, too. I haven't fenced in awhile and thought it was a good verbal bout. Bandwidth problem at 2am? Go figure. Wink

I got input from both sides of the argument...debate good

and debate bad as it pertains to your discussion.

Some said they found it refreshing to read and to have worthwhile discussions on the industry from two such opposite positions. Got that from Texas, up north, south and west. Those who didn't like it didn't pm or write me.

That having been said, I guess we could debate this for/against. Smile I'm pretty much for any debate which affects us.

Somewhere I got the idea that this is a tired old debate that has been going on for years but this time something may come of it...others say, no way it will pass.

Here's my question for you guys who want to speak up, but Diane in particular...

I know why the mortgage folk say "bad idea." I've got it!

Now, why would title companies want this to happen? Do most of them want to see it happen? How would it benefit title companies--not the borrowers, but the title companies? Or, are you just always been on the side of the consumer for the purpose of this debate?

If I missed points that answer these questions previously, feel free to tell me to go back to the thread and read.

Dang, English really is my first language....It should say:

on the side of the consumer

Though there are some issues that divide service providers in the real estate industry, many issues cross boundaries and I think predatory lending is one of those issues.

I have sold real estate though not for long. My mother recently retired her broker license after a long career. I always think of myself as a lender doing title work, but this year I crossed over that line and I now have been in the title business longer than I was a lender. So, with a perspective that has at least walked in the shoes of the various parties, I think the overall effect of this bill will be to improve our collective industry - especially if they can merge HR 3837 ideas into it.

Now in the spirit with which this thread started, rather than link to Radical, I am pasting below a few words on HR 3837:

Nicely done. I'm not going to argue details and I think mortgage servicers are pooping their pants right now, but here three things I really like about this legislative effort:

1. required escrows for primary residences with high LTVs
2. anti-flip measures
3. restoration of professionalism in the appraisal process

I am jealous, appraisers. I read your section and was mentally substituting title agents throughout. I won't begrudge you your release from bondage if some of this gets put into law. Hey, maybe there will be a freedom and professionalism contagion that produces like law governing conflicts of interest and quality of examinations in the business of title insurance.

I have a feeling these savvy legislators know there are more cookies to crumble.

Heck, we've gotta whole jar of em in OUR pantry.

Brenda -

You hit the nail on the head. We have no problem with Diane sharing her thoughts (the content), only with her delivery (the repeated links to her blog). After deleting several of her posts as "Advertising," we thought the rationale would be obvious:

The Notary Talk Discussion Forum is essentially a community blog. It is detrimental to our well-being when someone comes along and says, essentially: "I feel strongly about something everyone should be interested in. Come to my competing discussion area to learn more."

As you suggest, the statements could just as easily be posted here and made available for NotRot community discussion. We have no problem with that. With decent posts, it's just a matter of time before people say things like, "Who exactly is this PAW guy and why is he such an expert?" That, of course, leads readers to profiles and, ultimately, to author web sites. In some cases, curious readers may even find treasure-troves of helpful tools and information on those sites.

Thank you for taking the time to explain our position. Wink
