Per their website:
" Billing: Interstate Closings will pay each signing agent the all inclusive fee that was agreed upon, prior to taking the assignment, if in fact the closing is completed. If a closing is not completed due to no fault of the agent, Interstate agrees to pay half of the agreed upon fee (also known as a trip charge) upon our receipt of payment from our client. Please contact [e-mail address] with all billing issues. "
Why half if it's no fault to the agent?

I noted what was in parenthesis after the "trip fee". They said they would pay 1/2 fee "Upon our receipt of payment from our client". Looks like you're chances of getting that trip fee is based on who the client is. If it's a title company, you're probably SOL.

It's up to each individual what they will accept.
I felt it was worth my while to accept the assignment. I was giving Kudos to the fact that I received payment in 17 days.

"Looks like you're chances of getting that trip fee is based on who the client is."
And your chances of getting paid anything if you turn down the signing because of the trip fee is zero.
I'd have missed out on tens of thousands of dollars over the past 4 1/2 years if I turned down every signing where they weren't willing to pay full fee if the loan didn't close. Do I like trip fees? No. But I like cutting off my nose to spite my face even less.
