Smart, Stupid,or Cheat? You decide!

If you are a TC or a LA please dis-regard this post and if you to wish to
contract my services please check my profile for contact info.
With that being said! I read this forum at least once a day when time permits and I
have often wondered why the "veterans" are a little rough on the "newbies" at times, but if my
suspiciouns are correct then I am starting to get a pretty good idea of why some of their comments are what they are. I will let the members of this forum
decide and if the majority of the replies received feel that I am wrong then I will post a apology. I am sure everyone whoever has ever visited my profile knows
that I have a website. I had a visitor (he/she knows who they are) to my site today that person visited it 7 times and stuck around anywhere from 2 seconds to as
long as 57 minutes on one page, now if I what I suspect is true then this individual had to be pirating my material. Some might ask how would I know? Well I have a site meter on my page
which tells me just about everything, for example: IP address, state and county, referral link, time spent on each page etc...and this individual could have forgotten
to close out my page, sure enough that could be the case, but then to re-open it not once but several times within seconds and/or minutes...I dunno I think that is more
then a coincidence. So here is my theory on this person that he/she is smart enough to recognize good quality but too stupid to know how to copy and paste
(which by the way I have disabled) and if it proves to be true then in my opinion makes him/her a cheat. The sad part of all this is all they had to do is contact
me and I would have done all I could do to help them (for free) with their site even would have told them how to contact the person I paid to design mine for me.
So in closing I guess what I am trying to say is there are people out there that are to lazy, to cheap, to dumb, etc.... to do it on their own so they depend
on others to do it for them. I work hard and take pride in what I do and will do whatever I can to help others but when they try to slide by off the knowledge of
others then I say they get what they deserve. To the individuals who are guilty of doing these sort of things all I can say is don't bet the farm on how long you will be in
this business and for the life of me I can't imagine how you can present yourselves in good faith to potential customers as a Qualified SA.
Thanks everyone for letting me blow of a little steam.
By the way I haven't expandes my business that far south until today that is.

I usually have 10 -15 web pages open at any given time - several tabs on several windows. It's not unusual for me to have several web pages open all day on my computer, so to me 57 minutes on one page may or may not mean anything. Also, I may flip back and forth between pages if I'm skimming the text but not reading it in depth, or if I think of something I want to check right after I've already left the site or the page. That's not to say your assertions aren't on the mark, but the activity you described doesn't sound that unusual to me. But who knows?

Roger, there will be those who do their research, extrapolate some good points from various sources, then decide how connect the dots, so to speak, find a way to make themselves different from the pack and then make something workable for themselves. These people are doing homework of sorts, but they are putting forth effort to make something different to set themselves apart. I will call that homework.

Unfortunately, there are those who are too lazy to do for themselves: they cut and paste, not looking for anything in particular, just get the job done and take your credit for themselves. I call that plagerism and cheating and laziness. They have not been caught in school, for example, so feel it will serve them as well in real life. It is sad, and I agree that it is a stupid way to do things.

I do feel your pain - and that is why we are here - to hear you and/or commiserate with you as well.

and like Copperhead/VA, I have many open at same time too,

and just get irritated when I have to re-sign in at NotRot because... I've timed out?

disabling copy/paste is also a waste of time

considering the extreme instabilities of some machines - lock-ups/freezes could also cause someone to close then reopen many times.

clicking file - save (saves the entire page)

I don't know what kind of monitoring you have but could it be that someone landed on your site and forgot they were in it? I do that at times because I open the internet brower several time at once when I am working. (I have 4 browers opened now)

And yes, there are questions asked that floors people on this site. Because, if the asking person was truely any type of entrepreneur they would know the answer. NO matter what business they are pursuing.

Also, I see alot of questions, that my gosh, if they have to ask they don't need to work for themselves. Many successful people on this site have put in thousands of research hours and are rightfully offended by some of the questions asked.

What you all have stated is a possibility and something I had taken into consideration before posting my comments. The only problem I have with your theory is if that was the case then why open and close the page (usually the same pg) within minutes of each other seven different times in the course of a couple of hours. I am probably just being paranoid and the his/her activities might not warrant my suspicions but it has been picking away at me all day and I had to get off my chest and I thank all of you for allowing me to just that.

sorry Rog, cant agree with you on this one!

anyone running ie7 could have many tabs open at one time. go to the store- go do chores - come back 1, 2, hours later.
anyone running an earlier version, could just as easily open as many windows as their system will handle, and come back and forth through those open windows.
like someone else said, not knowing whether someone was distracted by phones, kids, dogs, neighbors, leaves the door open to many possibilities.
unless your stats show someone saving the page, then the argument is fruitless.

It happens a lot more than many like to think, I embed

strings of code whose only purpose is to idnetify my work, then its real easy to go onto a page that looks plagiarized and check the psuedo-code to see if its mine. If you are used to seeing code in some of the sites coded with commercial programs with WYSIWYG a few extra odd strings don't stick out.

My content has been copied too!

Some lazy jackbag stole the content of two of my pages and pasted it on to her websites. I found out when my website states showed a referral link to her. I've re-routed one of the hyper links to read:
Welcome to North County Mobile Notary. We are pleased that you have chosen to become our customer. Unlike our competitors, we offer superior customer service for customers who require Mobile Notary services in San Diego county. Please contact North County Mobile Notary today to experience the leader in mobile notary services. Please tell your friends to visit us at www.ncmn.net.
I've decided to let it be for now and see how long it takes her to realize that because she copied my content and hyperlinks, she screwed herself.

Re: My content has been copied too!

I republish my site every once in a while because of the horror stories I read on the web. I guess that's a good thing from what I have read in this thread.

I think I should republish more often (?) so I can wipeout any jerk that's altering my site.

I want to ask some questions but don't want to reveal anything to the .... whatevers!

Well I am not really sure where you all stand on this topic looks like a 50/50 split but after a good nights sleep I figure what the heck. So let it be known that I am a man of my word and hereby apologize to one and all if I was wrong especially to the individual who I suspect to be smart, stupid, lazy and/or cheat.
Have a great day!
Roger

Re: My content has been copied too! That's rich Kyle...

Sounds like most of the posts are concerned with "others" copy/paste of your intellectual property and hard work.

I use an encryption program that encrypts everything below the meta tags into non-sensenseical (sp?) grabage when viewd using the "view source" feature of the browser. It also does not allow mouse right click features or text highlighting for cut and pasteing. It does allow printing however. All embedded links work fine as do imageses e.t.c.. It also avoids the spam robots that collect email addresses within web pages.

I got tired of thiefs and started using this program (very simple to use, and very inexpensive too) on mine as well as other sites that I create and host a few years ago. I have rested easy ever since. You can see the results by just looking at my profile for my website link. I can provide more info on this little program for those interested.

Dang, Timothy, that's impressive.

I have been thinking about putting more notes together in the form of a book and would like to leave it as html that cannot be copied/pasted, but only printed out. I'll email you for the details.

Great resource. I couldn't figure out how to get around it.

Thanks.

Yes, a local notary copied my content verbatim last year!

We cover the same areas, she even copied my adwords ads (which I no longer use). She took my fee schedule, formatting, everything she could. I confronted her on this site, and was surprised that most of the notaries on here didn't think it was a problem. Now if she had been in CA I would have been flattered. She was here in my own backyard, new to the field, and was trying to STEAL my hard work.

Getting ideas from others websites is fine. I sometimes see a format or design that I'd like to use, but don't steal the content. I like what I do to be my work, not someone elses.
