The Final Step
Has anyone had any new dealings with The Final Step? I did two jobs for them in July and have not been paid. I have called Gary the owner several times and got a sob story that he has to get a loan out to pay the notaries. Its my understanding that he's still assigning jobs to poor unsuspecting notaries. He must have some money. Does anybody know what can be done about this?

Call the TC tomorrow and start complaining then,
call the lender and state the issue.

Re: Call the TC tomorrow and start complaining then,
I don't know who the lender was. The package was premade and I didn't make note of it. The only thing I have is a UPS tracking number. I would have to call the borrowers and ask them.

Re: Call the TC tomorrow and start complaining then,
If you have the tracking number go to the UPS website and track it, that will show you which title company you sent it to.

The UPS tracking only shows me where it was delivered to.

Re: Call the TC tomorrow and start complaining then,
Many times I am odd man out on these boards and this is probably one of those instances because I disagree with the 'experts' here who say we have no right to any info in the loan package. I'd have a copy of the HUD, the 3rd page of the 1003 and certain pages of the closing instructions in my file. Until paid, I believe you have an absolute right to certain info on that loan - your work product - you could also copy down the contact info for the lender and title company and their file/loan numbers but I'm too lazy for that so I make a copy of the pages with the info I want . That said, I only keep that info on NEW companies until I'm paid and when I get my check I shred that paperwork.

Re: Call the TC tomorrow and start complaining then,
Gary is not an honest person, I did a closing in Sept, he ignores my calls and I have called the lender and TC and they say that he was paid for the closing all ready, so where is your money, well lets be realistic, hum, the Turkey he had for dinner the other night, or the gas he fills he tank with or um maybe the christmas presents he buys for his family, or maybe the payroll for his family that works for him, or on whatever the heck he feels like spending our money on, just so you know unless you sit and wait for heck to freeze over you best go after him. I think that is what the rest of us are doing........Good Luck

Gary has been around a while. The first closing I did for Final Step was 3 years ago. They always paid slow but never this bad. About a year ago he gave me the same sob story about having to get a loan. He eventually paid me though. I don't know why I agreed to do these 2 in July. How do I go after him other than calling and calling him?

I'm in Md also, I think we need to contact the Md Insurance Commissioner and other gov't officials and state our case. Signing companies need to be controlled as do tc and mtg companies. I've stopped working for signing companies, it's too must risk involved.

I am having the same problem with LIA and was advised by several Notary Rotary members to contact the TC, which I did yesterday by email (check out postings under "LIA hung up on me!" . Lo and behold, I got a call today from the TC rep; apparently they have received calls from other notaries complaining about non-payment from LIA and said that they are going to drop them as a vendor. He then asked me if I would be interested in filling out their Notary New Hire packet so that they can contact me directly for assignments. ; > Tomorrow I plan to contact the lender; I want EVERYONE to know about LIA.

I have a contact
Contact James Pittenger at Lendingtree. His # is 949-579-8189. He is a higher up at Lending tree, and has advised me that other notaries have complained about Final Step not paying and he takes down all the loans and amounts that are owed, and he will not use Final Step as a vendor he tells me until all thier invoices are paid.

Re: I have a contact
Thanks. I don't think these were lending tree loans. I may try to call the borrowers and ask them what loan companies they were. But I will call Lending Tree also.

Re: I have a contact
Thanks for the contact much appreciated, what is the plan on getting us paid? Do you think that Final Step is going to just write us a check and poof we're paid. Final Step likes money more than their notaries....
