"Properly Advise Signers of Your Function"

I know many NR members do not like NNA and are not members, but a recent e-mail newsletter reminded NSAs of their function. This is especially important for newbies to know.

"While Most Notary Signing Agents perform their duties professionally and responsibly, some Signing Agents — either unknowingly or deliberately — step over the line into the unauthorized practice of law and face severe penalties. No matter how much a signer begs or pleads, NSAs cannot explain the contents of a document or tell a borrower if the interest rate is too high, the terms of the loan are questionable, the closing costs are excessive, or offer any other interpretation of the package."

Hmmmmm

Then the NNA apparently does not train their students on the contents on their newsletter. I get frequent calls to be a mentor from the NNA graduates and based on the knowledge of their graduates, their training is suspect at best .....

Re: Hmmmmm

Glen, what a laugh! "Hi I am Nina the Notary and I live in your backyard -want to help me take food out of your mouth, loose your house, and get your car repoed?" Really you dont want to do that? OK- thanks! Obviously this is intended to be funny!Smile These people need to get a clue or perhaps buy one.

Re: Hmmmmm

Well, I do mess with them a little, but I tell them to do their research and good luck. The NNA actually has told some people to look for a notary in their area and see if they will be mentors. It's difficult for me to talk to them with a straight face. it just cracks me up ....

Yes I got a call from someone in my same city...that is why I comented on this. Are they serious...I am sorry but I am not going to "show someone the ropes" to take money out of my pocket. Mentor- seems more likea martyr if you ask me.

Re: Hmmmmm

I had an appraiser call me -- looking to get into signings. I reminded him/her that if they're business is down, so is ours! Also mentioned that at least they get paid up-front, whether loan closes or not...not so with our industry.

Not according to the theory of the potential protege'....
it produces good Karma, don't ya know...they are giving you
an opportunity to help someone so good Karma flows
your way.

Speaking of opportunity. Remember when that word, "opportunity"
really meant something? Gosh, it's been used and abused over
the last few years.
