A week does not make the month

This was a very good week, almost felt normal. I have 13 closings scheduled for this week and it felt good. Now prior to that I had 10 for the first 3 weeks of the month.

I would like to hope this is a turn around, but I know better.

PS - every company (even regulars) are checking up after closings, seems the nervous LO's are driving people insane now..lol

I signed a loan officer this week. He lived in a huge, beautiful, expensive house. I thought he was an architech because he had plans for the backyard sitting out. Swimming pool, landscaping, playhouse, etc.

I happened to mention that I was down 75%. He said he was too. I don't know where he expects to get the money to pay for the loan for that phenominal backyard he is planning. I pay cash for everything now.

May I ask, are you a full-time mobile notary? If so, how have you made this into a full-time opportunity for yourself?

I'm excited for you! 13 in one week! I can't remember a week like that. I thought I had a good week last week with 5. This week I've had one.

KD - I was a FT Notary for years

But conditions have changed and can no longer live off this business on a FT bases now. You need to market yourself to every company you can and hope the phone rings. From there its up to you to do a good job and maintain client relations. During they hey day if you worked hard you could of made good money doing this. I thought I did well from 2002-2006 but 2007 will be a very bad year.

Would I have done this full time with the current conditions.. No Way

My resume is out and I have been interviewing for a Corporate job again, this will be a PT gig.

Unless you have other sources of income I would be very careful about doing this fulltime. IMHO

Newbies: are you paying attention?

We are all going through this, not just the new people. Even the experienced people are out of work.

Personally, I am almost afraid to start marketing again. I know the people I work for: who pays and who doesn't. I don't want to get a flurry of jobs from a new company, only to find out I am their latest sucker.

I have called my regular clients to say hi, (wondering if they are still in business) and some are not answering the phone. Frown

Re: Newbies: are you paying attention?

I have moved to a new area of the State as of 8/2006 and for the 2002-2006 years, I had a very good run of working mobile notary as a full time job, but I am now back in my licensed profession, so that I can make my bills. I don't think that now is the time or will we see it again, of the 12-18 closings a week, with more calls coming for across town closings at the same time.

I have noticed that the reverse mortgage has picked up, these are more time consuming for the notary, as the people are usually of the older generation that do not understand the "in home closing".

But hey were I am located now (not in a major metroplex) I can pretty much set my fee for whatever I want it to be, and I do.
