CA Bill AB 886 Passes in the Senate
Sharon Runner's bill AB 886 has now passed the Senate. This bill among other things removes Personal Knowledge as a way of identifying the signer of a document. Also, it removes the restrictions of local authorities in prosecuting notaries for violating notary laws. If this passes, the public will be able to go to their local District Attorney's offices and file complaints to be investigated, instead of waiting for the Secretary of State to do so.

Terri, under item 1, "Require all parties involved to present valid identification", do you know if credible witnesses will still be considered "valid identification"? I'm guessing it would, since it doesn't specifically exclude them, but I can't help but think that there is much potential for abuse there, as well, especially with this new requirement. A corrupt notary would only need to find a couple more accomplices. But it seems like a good step in the right direction! Thanks for the update.
