CENTRAL FL Getting Started
Hello,
I just recently got layed off from my FULL TIME job and would like to start using my Notary/Certified Signing Agent skills.
Can anyone give me some guidance? It would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks!

Start by reading the messages in this forum, especially from the last couple of months. Business is way down. Florida is saturated with signing agents, and there just isn't the work out there at this time.

Couldn't agree more.... work is extremely slow right now and the future looks pretty bleak for some time to come.

I did a quick search here - there are 146 mobile notaries within 20 miles of your zip code...377 within 30 and 600 within 40....you have quite a bit of competition in your area...
Like Sylvia said, read everything here - many long-time veterans are getting other employment because the signing business is so slow...IMO, depending on your own personal situation, your chances of replacing full-time income with mobile notary business and getting enough business to continue to bring in enough steady income to pay your bills, especially just starting out, are difficult at best. I'd suggest trying to get your feet wet in this on a part-time basis but get your resume out there for full-time work.

Re: CENTRAL FL Getting Started...P.S.
I got a call a couple weeks ago from someone who picked up my business card at a local business and called me to see how she'd get started in this business - sounded like something she'd like to do to supplement her current income...I relayed to her something that happened to me earlier this year - I'd been out of state the first 10 days in February tending to my mother, closing up her house and bringing her down here with me - I got back home 2/10/07 - and did not get another call until 3/26/07 - yep...almost ten weeks. It's gotten better since then, thankfully, but are you prepared to face and cope with that type of gap in work? It happens to many and is a "hazard of the trade" so to speak...can you afford that??
Needless to say she admitted she couldn't take that risk.
Just thought I'd share..

I have been a signing agent for approd 4 years and this has been the worst ever. I looked at my AR sheet yesterday and just about dropped over when I saw that I have only done about $2,000 worth of business since June, and, the last closing I did was in August (and we are now almost into October). thank goodness I don't rely on this to eat or pay my bills.
