Fed Ex Envelopes
Has anyone encountered problems by using the incorrect return Fed Ex envelopes for Transcontinental Escrow Co?

Yes, you must use the cardboard envelope, not the large envelopes because they cost more to ship.

Be sure to read their closing instructions
They outline this requirement (as well as others)

I do alot of closings for Transcontinental. Use legal size cardboard envelopes. If you have an account, they will deliver them to your house (a package of 25 usually). I pick mine up at Kinko's.

They'll give you a box of 250 if you want to order that many. As long as you have an account, they will send you what ever you ask for. I keep a large supply of all the couriers supplies as I am in a remote area.

They will deduct $25 from your fee if you use the wrong size envelope - at least that is what they used to do.

Yes they do deduct $25 if in the wrong size envelope, my last closing with them was last month....

I have been able to use the envelope they requested too, but a $25 fee reduction is WAY too much! That almost gives them FREE shipping at your expense. Actual shipping cost is $27.32.

OT Fed Ex Envelopes - if you have accidently
had the wrong size supply shipped to your house and find they are not the proper size for your clients, you may be able to make furniture out of them.

If you have inadvertently ordered the tyvek envelopes try slipping them over your head. They fit my head nicely. I am absolutely 100% sure they work as well as a tin foil cap to keep out the rays from alien space ships. I have never been communicated with by a genuine alien...proof positive that my tyvek hats from Fedex work.
See #53289 for more ideas on utilizing spare Fedex supplies.
========== Disclosure: I don't know why, but my Fedex account stopped working after writing message #53289. True story.

It's been a couple of years since I've done a closing for them, but I do remember the requirement for legal envelopes, not packs. I did occasionally ship back in a sturdy pack, but only when it was a double or more than one closing that wouldn't fit in an envelope.

I will ship them in anything Transcontinental wants. They are one of the best. I get several from them each month.

I keep a supply of those cardboard envelopes. You can order them, I always use them for everyone (just in case) by the way, even the FedEx offices do not have them.
Remember just sign up on the Fed Ex website and they will send you all the supplies that you will need.

I always get my supplies from the Fed-ex terminal where I drop off docs. They always have the cardboard envelopes. Never had to order on-line.

I took a package into Kinko's and the guy at the Fed Ex Counter told me the cardboard envelopes were only for 30 pages or less. I had my documents in one, and he inserted the whole thing into one of the soft envelopes. Have you ever had that happen?

Re: Fed Ex Envelopes-International included
I stuffed a 1st and 2nd loan package that had about 176 pages in the cardboard envelope. It was hard at first but I got it in there. I never had a fedex person switch out.

I believe 1 pound is the weight limit for the non-expandable cardboard envelope (according to the FedEx Ship Manager online).

I only use the Legal envelopes but it seems that they are getting harder and harder to fit all the documents in there. Sometimes I put tape across the the package because I am afraid that the envelope will pop open once dropped in box.

I also have started to remove my binder clips and use rubber bands when returning most document packages. The binder clips tend to tear through the envelope when the fit is tight.
Besides, rubber bands are less expensive than binder clips.

Excellent idea using rubber bands instead of clips. ty n/m

Same here, Barb
and I find that it is easier to slide large doc packages inside those envelopes without the bulky clip. One of companies that I work with commented that she has a array of my large colored bands and asked if I wanted them back because they started using them on their files now.

,I have had that happen to me also on one occasion and I have also sent larger packages and they were ok, go figure. Also when I read the instructions re the fedex envelope I asked they scheduler why, he said that the legal size envelopes are reusable therefore stronger and there is less chance of the docs getting damaged in transit, makes sense.

Reply by Ilene C. Seidel on 9/12/07 6:59am Msg #210466
No but they are pretty definite on us using reusables. I don't want to take the chance so that's all I order for supplies.

I did a closing for them a couple of weeks ago and noticed that requirement. I had no problems using the shipping package they required. These folks were super nice and I hope to get more calls from them in the future. I have not gotten paid yet but was told that I get paid when the loan funds....my check should be in the mail =o)

Former FedEx Employee here.
I was an FedEx employee for 16 years. coming from knowing how the system works, every document goes through a scanner that assesses the weight. Many times I would see where people would stuff 5 pounds of stuff in a conatainer rated for 8 ounces.
FedEx dim weights the docs. So if you send 3 pounds in an envelope, guess what, you get charged for 3 pounds, not the letter rate. They would be fools not to utilize a system like that. How much money do you think they would lose if they trusted the customer to be "honest" about the weight. Next time you track a package look in the weight section. You will see the update.

Re: Former FedEx Employee here.
James: It depends onl your account. I can ship as much as I can fit into a legal or letter size envelope, domestically or internationally for the letter rate if processed online or FedEx Ship Manager software. I would not be surprised that many title companies have the same arrangements.
Best to al.

Re: Former FedEx Employee here.
I guess that could be true as well. I didnt think of that. Ill tell you though, the people not binding their papers together stand the risk of if that package breaks, they have 100 + documents flying down a belt that travels 35 mph. Do this, take 100 pieces of paper drive 35mph down the road. Now stick that stack out the window....Get the picture?

Re: I had one...
where it was a split signing. I sent the docs off in a reusable cardboard envelope to the other notary. This notary, threw away my cardboard envelope, and send a soft pak back to Transcontinental. When I got my payment it was $25 short. I called Trans... They said I used the wrong envelope.
After much fighting with them, explaining it was not me, they FINALLY sent the rest. I only EVER use the cardboard pouches. Makes it so I don't have to clip them together with a binder clip. Money saver!
