For the "veterans" remember when...

The only website to sign up on was the NNA
E-docs weren't even thought of
Faxing back documents was the "norm"
Turning down closings because 6 in one day was enough
There was only a handful of signing agencies
You'd be ask to travel quite a distance for a closing because there wasn't another notary in the area (And got paid handsomely to do so!)
A typical day was working from 6 am to 11 pm.. or later
ARMS were unheard of
We were a few years younger Smile

"ARMS were unheard of "

When I bought my first home and the prime rate was in the middle teens I had to get an ARM just to get my payments down. I thought I was lucky to get a 12% rate. LOL

Longer "veteran" than you

Remember when

The National Association of Signing Agents was the beginning of an internet-based national PROFESSIONAL association and not every state had more than a handfull of non-attorney signing agents. The NNA bought out NASA and turned what was a small professional group into a national marketing arena.

Remember when classes were taught "live" by experienced, professional instructors for $xxx instead of getting the same certification through a $9.99 CD. There are still "live" classes with professional instructors; however, the "get educated and rich quick" programs far out market and out number them. P.T. Barnum is alive and well Smile

Remember when Notaries PUBLIC were just that: Public officials commissioned to serve the public and not a stepping stone to a full-time career.

Re: Longer "veteran" than you...AND

During the 'can u do' call, they actually had an intelligent conversation with you.
The CO came by fax.
Edocs were unheard of
Docs were always received the day before the signing.
You only faxed back ONE page upon completion---the CO...with space for the Tracking # and this also served as confirmation that it had been signed & was also your invoice.
You never had a payment issue.
And the last one ought to surprise you---SOX was a good company to work with.

I remember when SOX was good.

They paid me a lot of money in the begining. Then the checks stopped coming and I had to go to the BBB. After they sent me that last check, they never called me again.

Newbies: beware of SOX, united notaries, and signatures plus.

I think Nexus can be added

to that group as well. There are others, not as well known, but still included in that box of bad apples.

And even with our small group of pros, the NASA board....

still had too much nonsense and petty fights, which
caused Susan to shut down the message board under
threats of legal action. (The more things change, the more they stay the same).
That was before she sold it to NNA (don't need to use XYZ here).
NNA never started a NSA board for that reason.
Anyone hear how she is doing??.

Remember when .....

They overnighted your check, along with the loan package, and you could deposit/cash it when the signing was completed, whether or not they signed? (& Back then, they always signed).

Re: Remember when .....

Oh, right... always signing! I was in this biz for 8 years before I got my first no-sign.
