GPS - suggestions?

I'm thinking about getting a GPS system for my truck - I don't want to use a palm pilot type program... any suggestions? Anyone use Tom TOm?

It all comes down to what you think you need. I have a Garmin StreetPilot c330 - works great for me, but I'm just interested in the quickest way to get from point A to point B. This model tells you when to turn; the c340 (about $50-$100 more) will call out the name of the street you should be turning at. Garmin has other higher-end models that include Bluetooth capabilities and real time traffic reports.

Re: GPS - suggestions?.....I agree with Mike

I know a few people who use the Tom Tom as well. Depends on what you need like Mike said.

Hello to all my first post. I have the Tom Tom one its ok, put sometimes it cannot find some streets, also it has an option for real time traffic updates which connects to your cell but it only works with certain mobile carriers. Guess what im trying to say I think the Garmin is a better model. Hope that helps!

I have a Magellan Road Mate. There have only been a couple time with troubles locating a location but one was a new development and the other was out in the middle of nowhere. Other than that no complaints. It's all in what you want it to do and how much you are willing to pay. Good luck looking.

Just bought Garmin reconditioned C550, works great. I did have a C330, but it decided I had used it to much. Kept shutting off and locking up. Checked with Garmin on fixing and it would cost $225. C550 cost $299.00 warrenty is for 1 year just like a new one. Bluetooth works great with it also.

I have a Garman not sure what type but my Husband name her Bi$#hing Betty. I hear that you can get them in male of female voices. Wish I knew that before I got mine a sexy male voice would have been nice for me.

I have a Garmin 2620. There are newer models out there now, but I can't imagine doing my job w/o it. I really to tell the truth don't know how I did my job w/o it to be honest. I guess I got lost alot and got frustrated. Garmin is the way to go. I'm buying my boyfriend one for xmas this year.

I have a Garmin which I love- have not had any problems. It is very accurate. I briefly had a Tom Tom and did not like it at all. It would take me on some really strange routes- roads that were little more than dirt paths! The model I had also did not tell me if the destination was on the left or the right which is kind of a pain especially at night.

I've had the original Tom Tom for about 2 years and it has been just fine.
It sometimes won't find an address in a new development but then neither will the on-line map programs.
When I have to replace it I will evaluate again and will get a slightly larger screen but I would look at the new Tom Toms first.

I have the Navman, very good unit, even has a camera in it. None of them are gonna be fool proof.

Good luck on your purchase.

I have a TomTom 510 and had used a Garmin in a rental recently. I found the TomTom voice system to be clearer but that's about all. They both worked fine finding locations. The one thing I don't like about the TomTom is that it doesn't bring me right to the street address. It brings me to the street but sometimes I could still be 100+ yards off from the house. This is not a big deal except at night time when its difficult to see the house number. I questioned TomTom about this and they said its the map coordinates they, and other GPS systems, buy their maps from.

I have a GPS that came installed with the elaborate sound system in my car. Unlike others, it does take me right to the house and tells me which side of the street the house is on.

One fault is when I'm leaving the closing and I click on my home address, the instructions state for me to go to the main road and then it will guide me from there. But heck, I've been in that house for an hour..I don't even remember which way to go to GET to the main road...what the heck do they think I paid the big bucks for? But at least I see the little moving arrow on the GPS and I can pretty well figure out how to get back to the main road eventually...LOL.

Re: GPS - suggestions? I love my Tom Tom!!

I recently purchased a Tom, Tom after getting tired of having to rush and print out maps constantly . . also the sale price was hard to resist, 199.00. Yes, it is a low end model, I think it is the 100? But I love it!! The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't say what side of the street the address is on . . but are you kidding me?? I can deal with it!! Love it!! I guess it is all up to personal preference. I must add however, that although I haven't finished reading up on the Tom Tom the only thing I would like to have added (and this may be possible by downloading something online) would be the option to choose streets only versus fwy's and streets. I do most of my work in L.A. county and often times I try my best to avoid the fwy's!

Good Luck!!

Last night I borrowed my daughters Garmin nuvi (thats what it says on case-she told me it was around $500) and I loved it. I was in rush going into an unfamiliar part of the county and there were storm warnings. The directions were precise. When I turned on the street in the middle of no where it announced the house number and the side of the street it was on. As I got close it told me I was there and bingo I was at the winding driveway. When I got in to leave it was pitch black out (and boy did I have fun backing down that driveway LOL) and as soon as I got on the street it guided me all the way back. Funny thing at the first turn I would have sworn I needed to make a right but "she" said left and she was correct. Funny thing was though, it was trying to take me to her house and it kept recalculating the directions and when I got to my street it told me to make a u-turn. Too bad it doesnt have a deer alert! Bottom line I loved it, especially since when I left I drove right into the t-storm.
