New background screened NNA certified Notary signing agents
I have been a background screened certified signing agent for over a month. I have marketed to over 100 lending companies and real estate companies. Yet, I have yet to have any return communication from anyone. Is this normal?

Dennis, over 5-1/2 years ago
when I started, it took me over 2 months of signing up with companies before I got my first call. Then the first month I got one on the third of the month and then nothing until the 3rd week of the month and I got 3 more. I also spent that month signing up with everyone I could. This was at the start of the boom and not at or near the bottom of the bust! This is a terrible time to be starting this business not only because of the real estate bust, but also because a certain un-named association has been conducting classes all over the country touting how you can make a great living at this all the while knowing that they were increasing the pool of NSA's to chase a continually decreasing demand (Econ 101). Many of us on this board are re-evaluating this business because we are finding it is no longer a self supporting business. In light of that, do not expect to get any real help about how to get business in this climate because we are all in this same boat.

Thanks to everyone who had an answer. I thought it might have just been me.

Re: New background screened NNA certified Notary signing age
I also am certified, background-checked (the whole bit) and have my name out with nearly 300 companies over a two-year period. I've had 5 closings this month. Is that any indication??

Re: Dennis, read msg 212067
You have just answered my question. Thank you!
I wish you luck in these very rough times. Read all posts for the last week and you will get an idea on what is going on.
Unfortunately, the class you took didnt approach the reality of the signing industry as it sits right now.

How does it feel to be bent over by the XYZ? If I were you, I would start complaining to anyone that would listen. I would file reports with ripoffreport.com, scam.com and bbb.com. Sorry to be the one to tell you, you got hosed. Do you still believe that the XYZ is "The Nation's Professional Notary Organization"?
I can't believe they are still saying things like "With Notary Signing Agents in great demand, you'll want to acquire the expertise to take advantage of this lucrative career opportunity."
Truly a shameless organization, IMO.

Re: New background screened NNA certified Notary signing age
I am still trying to figure out how they can say they are a National Notary Association. They are not there for the regular notary, they are more interested in signing agents, and in turning out as many as they can. I got stopped by a guy selling Tupperware in a mall once, I had been to a meeting and had my Certified Notary Instructors badge on, and the guy stopped me and asked me about the signing agent business as he had received a solicitation from the NNA to take classes to become a notary and do loan signings and make $50-$125 an hour. I quickly set him straight, and he said it sounded like a scam when he got the solicitation.

Becca....
If you go to ripoff.com and type Notary in the search function you will find a complaint on NNA already exists. Fun reading.

Re: PA_NotaryII....
Thanks for the heads up! I wish more newbies would file complaints. The false advertising will never cease unless people that have been duped speak up.

Re: PA_NotaryII....
Sorry, but we've gotten all of our business through the NNA database ... but, the reality is that the industry is in flux ... end of August five closings per week (we are in rural Oregon so, that is a good week) ... end of September? Nothing.
No one will get rich in this business. You might make a decent second income ...
This happened in the 1980's with real estate agents ... everyone was getting their RE sales license so they could get rich ... working 10 hours per week ... (only way to do that is by selling drugs, and I don't recommend that) ... in any business you have got to work your butt off ... my RE agent is selling $2mil per year ... after 20 years ... she sill works 60 hours a week ...
My advise ... be realistic ... and do your homework BEFORE getting into this business ... our mentor NSA has been at this for three years ... she gets 8-12 signings per week ... in our area ... she survived the signing services and started working direct ... she makes a "comfortable" income ... THREE YEARS!!! Don't give up ... get realistic ...
