North Carolina - Attorney State??
My escrow officer insists that NC is an atty-state and I am positive it is not. Can anyone confirm this please? thanks

South Carolina is an attorney only state, NC isn't - as far as I know. There are several NC signing agents posting here.

i am in va, but my understanding is that they are trying to make nc a attorney state, but its not yet i don't believe. you can go to NNA and find out on their site I believe. They should have any updates on that.

NC was an afttorney state until 2003. Meaning that the closing had to be done thru an attorney for escrow funds purposes, and now title companies can do the escrow closings, meaning that they can handle the money...and notaries can do the witness signings.

Re: NC is NOT an attorney state!
You are Correct. The attorneys had a bill introduced to make it an attorney only state. Through an organized campaign backed by the NNA the bill was pulled from the floor about a month ago. I am sure it will be reintroduced in the future. In the mean time, I will continue to enjoy the work.
