Pay Up-Front

Can we as Notaries ask the signing companies to pay up-front or ask for a down payment? Seems like that should be permissible.
Anyone out there know the answer to this one?

Sure, you can ask.

Nobody will take you up on it, though.

It's like the food chain..Big fish eats little fish. Borrower pays Title..Title pays SS... SS pays Notary.... sometimes. And no one gets any money until the deal closes.

The simple way to deal with this is to have the notary listed on the HUD, and paid by the borrower directly.

They most likely will not do it and just call someone else. It's a gamble, but most of them pay. You just have to look at their ratings after you accept and before you do the closing. Take "One Touch Closings and "The Closing Company" as examples.
