Question for Michigan notaries????

My parents live in TN and have a Warranty Deed for property they sold in MI. There is a place for witnesses to sign, is this a requirement for Michigan.

Thank you in advance!

It used to be a requirement but that was changed a few years ago, so no you don't need witnesses in Michigan.

Tough 2 weeks for the Univ. of Michigan unh?

Lose to a small school from NC and then get their butts handed to them by the Ducks. There is always next year. Smile

Joan-OH.....????MI - USE BLACK INK!!!!?????

Joan, do you remember which County rejected the use of blue ink?
Michigan does not have a compiled law for the color of signatures and
notarization, however, they do have an MCL for the color of the document
(which is black).

So, if you had the borrower(s) sign their name in blue ink, and you signed your name in
blue ink (for the notarization), and the document itself was in black, everything
should have been OK.

It's not the signature, it's the printed info

Some of these counties want printed info to be in black (they interpret the wording that the document itself must be printed in black to mean that any written printing must be in black as well). Your printed name, county info, expiration, etc. I've never seen any issue with the signature itself being blue, and several of my clients that are based here in Michigan insist on blue signatures.
