References
I have only had 2 closings since I have become a NSA. I have been signing up with different companies and some are asking for references. What is the best way to supply these companies with reference if I have not done much work? I have asked one of the companies for a reference but they do not give them out, is what I was told. What do you suggest?

I used to get asked for references...do not give out Title Companies or any of their/your competitors. I just gave name of some of the other Signing Services I had signed up with, or names of former employers etc (just like a regular job application). Hope this helps...

Hi Kathy,
I agree with Doc. When I got started in the business, I supplied regular employment references. I used one person who worked for BOA and processed loans for them (as opposed to someone who worked as a nurse). So I was selective in the names I provided. I tried to provide names/companies that were in the finance business.
Good luck.

You need to work with the Elcheapo signing services to build references. Try Notary Pro and maybe Vital Signings. They are hand holders and like to pay very little. Most established notaries do not like these companies and probably can get experience with these companies. The bottom line is that it is going to be very hard to get started in a very down market.

Since the market is down I plan on only doing this evenings and weekends. I will still hold my full time job. I figure I can use this time to get me some experience and by the time the market changes I will then have a better shot of getting signings as I will have the experience.

Problem is that everyone else is also down to doing evenings & weekends, so your competition will likely be greater than you think. How many do you think you'll be able to squeeze into an evening? Weekends don't typically happen either, in my experience.

Most of my signings are between 4-8. Are you able to leave your job, go print docs, call borrower and travel by 3pm? Just a thought.
