Spam

The spam on my email has gotten completely out of control. I'm getting some 40-50 unwanted solicitations every day. Does anyone have any suggestions for a technologically impaired email user on how to reduce the volume of this crud? I can't filter it out based on the sender's email address, because they all come from different addresses.

I use gmail (google email service). They have a very good spam filter. All the spam goes straight to the spam folder. Every few days I delete all the spam:it's quick and easy. And gmail has a huge mail box so it's never a problem to receive large files.

Gmail

just be careful, I just checked my spam folder and I had 10 e-mails (out of 700) that shouldn't have been spam, so be careful!

Re: Gmail

This has happened to me with G-mail as well - sometimes an e-mail with confirmation or docs goes to the spam file.

Who is Your ISP, Hugh?

Under normal circumstances they can detect & separate out the majority of this "crud" into a spam inbox. For example I use AT&T/Yahoo! as my mail service for both personal & business & rarely do I receive a spam e-mail in my regular inbox on their site. I never automatically download anything from Yahoo! into my computer's Outlook mail desktop application. All Yahoo! mail messages are viewed in my inbox via my IE browser & if there's something I want to download to Outlook on my computer I make sure everything's deleted from the spam inbox prior to doing so. Otherwise anything in the spam inbox along with what's in my regular inbox will be downloaded to my computer as well. I've gotten to the point where I can systematically page through the spam inbox on Yahoo! in a short period of time to make sure I've not been sent something I want. I delete the trash & shift anything I want to keep over to my regular inbox. It's a crime we're forced into doing this kind of maintenance, but it's a price we unfortunately have to pay under the current e-mail system.

Re: Who is Your ISP, Hugh?

Thanks, Dennis. It's a regional provided called Grande Communications. I'm not satisfied with them, but my email address is so tied up in my business I just haven't found the courage/energy/time to go to another provider.

ChoiceMail One

If you are using a PC based email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc.), ChoiceMail One (http://www.digiportal.com/index.html) will block the spam before it gets to your inbox. And since it runs on your PC, you have full control of it. It even allows you to see what's being "blocked" so you will never miss an email because of a spam blocker protecting users from themselves.

Re: ChoiceMail One

Thanks, PAW. As always, you are a font of information.

Now, I'm also having this problem about having to get up several times a night to visit the bathroom. And I've got this weird clunking coming from the left side of the trunk of my car. Plus Lucy the Chihuahua has completely forgotten all her house training. And The Platinum Blonde insists that if I can waltz, I can polka.

Can you help?

Re: ChoiceMail One

First, sleep in the tub. No more nighttime trips to the bathroom.

Clunking in trunk? Hmmmmm..... Put Lucy in the trunk until she either finds the clunking or is housebroke.

Easy house training.... see above or keep her in the yard.

I agree with the Platinum Blonde.

(( All the above said in jest, except #1 and #4. Smile ))

I've been wondering if they have been getting my e-mail address from here on my NotRot profile, because I've had hundreds of profile views the last couple of months, but nowhere near the call volume to match that!
