I've read where some use the.....
refill kit for the tn570 to refill the tn580. Toner kits.com says that the toner is different in these two cartridges so they don't sell a refill for the tn580. I have seen refills for the tn580 on ebay but question whether it's the right product as I haven't found a a company that sells refills for the tn580. You can buy a compatable cartridge for about $35 from different online places and thats what I do. Not too bad, $35 for a 7000 page yield.

Thanks for the info. I just checked out TonerRefillKits.com, prices looked good and it had the 580 on there for a refill kit.

I've been using the Brother 5240 for over 2 years now. What a little work horse this printer is. The toner cartridge can be refilled many times before the seal on the right hand side gives out. If you are mechanically inclined, you can open the cartridge up and repair the seal.I've done this sucessfully, and continue to use the same "starter" cartridge that came with my new printer.I do have a couple of backups just in case. The savings on buying new cartridges is well worth the small amount of time it takes to repair and refill. Don't tell anyone, as the SS will want to reduce our print fees...

Hey Doc,
I am not mechanically inclined. How do you repair the seal?

To Johnny B
At the front of the cartridge you will see 2 phillip head screws. You will need to remove those along with the side cover on the left hand side that covers the gear assy and the reset counter.Make sure the toner has been removed from the cartridge before removing the roller.Carefully remove the roller by sliding the white plastic tab on the left side to unlock it.The roller will now slide out from the left.On the right side you will see a seal that will be covered with toner.Clean that seal real good with alcohol, and using duct tape, cut a small strip that will cover the top of the seal.Press the tape on the seal, and remove. In doing that several times you will raise the material back to a point where it will seal against the roller and no longer leak.Make sure you wear latex gloves when touching that roller, as the oil on your hands will affect the print quality. Now re-assemble, refill and test.Any questions please PM me.
