Totally clueless on this one...Brither 7820N Drum

Recently bought a drum about 4 weeks ago which is supposed to put out 12,000 pages and 5,000 to 8,000 on the toner. Bought the toner at the same time as the drum unit. Drum is now at 0% and requesting a change.

Anyone have any ideas on what could have happened? I very well know my machines and the best I can figure it out is that it is a faulty drum unit somehow.

My last drum lasted 3 months. Go figure.

Did you reset the drum count.....

when you replaced the drum? On my brother 5250 if you open the cartridge door and press the go button until all lights stay on, this resets the count.

Re: Did you reset the drum count.....

Nope! I did not do that. Guess I will have to look at the manual again.

Re: Did you reset the drum count.....

My problem with the drum on my Brother MFC 8860 is I could set the count back but it didn't help the printing.
Black smudges appeared on the borders of the printed pages and I had to buy a new drum.

EBay or www.mysimon.com are good places to buy a Brother drum.

I will never buy another Brother printer and will go back into the comfort of Hewlett Packard products and never stray again!!

Re: Joan, I had a refurb drum that did the same

Unfortunately, I cannot get drums locally for my printer & can only order from online sources. I had an extra in the supply closet & switched to it, but part was broken & it kept jamming pages. I ended up having to return it (luckily for a 1-year return policy) & go through a different supplier.
I am/was shopping for a newer model, but with the downturn in business lately, I'm not sure that I can recapture my purchase price quickly. My workhorse is still chugging away, so for now, I'll stick with old faithful. Maybe business will pick up again to where it will make sense to upgrade.

If you've refilled the cartridge a few times, then the seal starts to leak on the cartridge. The drum might not be the problem at all.I've reset the drum counter twice and the print quality is still very good.
