Verbiage
Is it OK to notarise document if the VERBIAGE is written in language other than English. Notary understands that language. Document requested to be notarised in California

Yes, you can, as long as the document is complete. You are notarizing the signature, not the document. You should be able to know the type of document so you can note it in your journal and state that it is in a foreign language.

What are the requirements for CA? The requirements for NC are: " A NC notary may execute a notorial certificate only if it is in English". I believe this applies to all states. Sounds like Notary 101 to me.

Re: Notary Certificate mst be in English.
The CA handbook doesn't state that the ack/jurat be in English, it only states that the NP is responsible for completing it. This would be a question for the SOS.

Page 10 bottom of the page in the CA notary Handbook: "The certificate of acknowledgment must be in the form set forth in Civil Code section 1189." Thus, it states in this sentence MUST BE IN THE FORM SET FORTH...., which is in english.

Best practice is to use a California Compliant All Purpose Acknowledgment. As far as the Jurat is concerned, you have to use the CA Jurat wording, regardless of where it came from or is going to, if it's being notarized in CA by a CA notary

While the document being notarized can be in another language, even if the notary can't understand it, the CA Notary's certificate must be written in english.

In OR. notary may notarize sig on doc in another lang if
the notary fluently reads/writes the language in the document. Notary must note the foreign language factor in the journal.
Also, notary may use certificate written in another language if notary understands the language on the certificate and the cert meets minimum requirements of Oregon statutes. Otherweise, notary could offer to type or attach an English language certificate chosen by the customer.
