Whew!

Ok,

So today I get a call from a title company for a closing in my area, I got a good price to do it.

So then I figure out that the borrower is actually in NYC area, (I am in Massachusetts) so I get the bright idea to play signing service and contract it out. I call all notaries on this site that are in that upper NYC area, all are booked. I even went to another website and finally got someone there who was available. What hard work! I made like 20 calls, negotiated, heard all sorts of booked up excuses. Good news however, when you hear on these boards how slow everyone is, hopefully this is a sign that things are picking up!

Re: So true.

I know someone who now has a job during the day and she tells them that she is booked.

Does your client know you farmed this work out? Did you verify and check references for the person you hired? Reason for that question is I cannot imagine anyone with experience accepting an order from a voice on the phone that isn't a legitimate business.

If you contracted it out as a signing service, are you ready to pay the signing agent you hired if you do not get paid?

I got to play the role of SS a couple months ago too. I accepted an assignment. When I received the confirmation, it was an old boyfriend. What to do????? I immediately called the company and told them I could not accept the assignment and why. We all got a big laugh out of it. I was then told to try and find someone on my own to cover it for them. I have 2 notary friends that we have covered for each other in the past. I called one and he accepted it with no problem. I met him with the docs as they were o/n docs and gave him 1/2 fee on the spot in cash. I then waited till I was paid and sent him a check for the balance. 30 days. Worked out fine. Whew is right. Didn't have any desire to meet this old boyfriend again. lol
