You were lucky! Their policy has always been that they pay only if and when they get paid.
I did some signings for them several years ago, and one of them I waited the better part of a year to get paid, and when I called about payment was told in no uncertain terms by Tom (who has to be one of the rudest people I ever dealt with) that I was obviously new or I would know that the notary only gets paid if and when they get paid.
