A comment re non-payment

There are many ways that notaries can attempt to get paid by deliquent companies. However, if you don't report these deliquent companies to the company that hired them, that company will continue to use them. I make it a point to report deliquent signing services to the title company and deliquent title companies and lawyers to the lender (the letter goes directly to the CEO, even if it's Countrywide). Numerous times I have been thanked for doing this. Even when a VP of Countrywide has called a lawyer and said, "Pay her immediately," they really do want to know. Therefore, I would urge you, no matter what method you use for collection, to report problems.

When I started The No No List years ago, it was 3 pages long. It is now 5 pages, and many of the deliquent companies, LIA for example, are still in operation. Notaries have only themselves to blame for this because they don't do anything but complain on list serves. Yes, we all appreciate you notifying us of deliquent companies, but you need to go a step farther and complain to the company that hired them.

A while back I took a signing from LIA (silly me). They kept playing games and finally sent a check for $25. When I called to ask where the rest of my money was, I told oh sorry we have been doing a lot of mods and we will get to it when we get to it. That was the final straw. I emailed them one last time giving them 24 hours to respond and when they didn't, I emailed the title company. That got their attention - someone called and started yelling and when I politely told her the steps I followed she calmed down and mailed the balance that day. They have called me a couple of times since, but I have not accepted anything from them.

Ronda, I took your advice, thank you so much. I had problems with Sox Signing Solutions AKA Sign on the X. I did a job for them in April & May without knowledge of who they were. Their policy is to pay you two months or more after you complete the job and they are Cheap Too! Well when payday came around zero check. I then started researching and found out alot of "dirt" on them from these listings. So I contacted the Title company who I did the signing for. That was after trying to contact Sox by e-mail and phone calls. Well let me tell you that opened up a can of worms!!! The Escrow officer wrote me back and offered to help me get paid along with sending the e-mail to Sox. Then I got calls threatening me with legal actions, telling me I was slandering their name in vain from the employee's and that because of my daring to contact the lender and tell him not to do business with companies like theirs they would not pay me I had forfiture my payment. Even a private investigator called me the same day I sent the e-mail pertaining to the e-mail! I argued with the employee's but I didnot contact the Investigator I contacted my atty who told me I had not done anything wrong if I was telling the truth I had nothing to fear. Well next thing I did was send a letter to the CEO of the company, she then called me left a message. The calls continued from the employee and I re-wrote the corrected name on the next letter and requested the employee's stopped their harrassing calls. Today I got my paychecks as the CEO had stated in her last message!! So I guess it paid to play hard ball and fight for my money. Believe me it wasn't alot either but the principle of the whole thing was Not to be taken advantage of. I also told them that I would never worked for them again.
