CA Laws and regulations-Are they working?
It just seems as if you folks are the most highly regulated notaries in the country and still most of the "bad stuff" is coming out of CA, what's up?

What kinds of bad stuff are you talking about?

Here's a little perspective for you: one out of every eight Americans lives in California. Orange County, where I live, has about 1/10th the area of your entire state, but more than twice the population -- and that's just one small county! So we have more than our share of everything, including the "bad stuff". It's just a matter of sheer numbers...

Actually Gary, having lived in the area that argument is
valid 9 months of the year! New England has Winter and Summer and Summer only lasts July and August!

Must be something like that. Besides, my outside workday ended today doing a final doc check while sitting in my car on a hill overlooking Laguna Beach with the sun going down behind me. The temperature was perfect and the view couldn't get much better! So I'm cool...

A solution looking for a problem...
There's plenty of loan "bad stuff" in CA, but not much notary misbehavior that I'm aware of... okay there's a few newbies "Doing Notaries" but we hardly consider that a sin in CA, much less a crime.
Our latest set of new laws really changed very little... took away our ability to notarize on personal knowledge, but that's rare... and it requires us to sign acks "under penalty of perjury"
Well, hell, before that law I was signing acks under an oath to serve my State and protect it's constitution... if that wasn't enough this wouln't help.
So the bad stuff still plods along and good notaries still out number bad ones 10 to 1... and we've spent a little money complying with the latest Sacramento Sillines (actually notary laws are some of the cheapest silly things they do, so it's all good.)

Maureen, you need some perspective ....
The population of you state is about 1.3 million. The population of California ia about 38 million. Of course you will have more problems coming out of California just due to sheer numbers. The County I live in has nearly 3 times the population of your entire state ...... Just some perspective.
