E-signing from homeowner's point of view: moving
When is a homeowner most likely to need to look at deeds, mortgages, and the like? Of course, right around the time of the purchase or loan, which is fine. (They know if their computer is set up at the time they accept or decline an e-signing). The next time they are likely to need that stuff is when they move or sell the home. If they have a mini-tower, it may be boxed up for moving; even if they have a laptop, important accessories like external drives or the printer may be packed. They may not have any active high-speed internet at the time of the signing, because it has been cancelled in connection with the move. I have a hard time seeing how electronic documents are in the consumer's best interest.

Think you're missing a few things.... one, Refi's, Helocs are not when people are moving and, more importantly, they want YOU to bring the laptop, buy the modem that connects to the 'net or, if you're very fortunate, it's already built-in to your laptop. Then you purchase an 'aircard' contract at $25 to $60/month to make it all happen. And you'll still be printing the docs requiring 'wet' signatures and faxing a whole lot of stuff back to them & then still (of course) overnight everything. I will grant you that recently, they seem to be moving a bit off of the Notary having/dragging stuff/doing it all and thinking that perhaps the B will like doing this on their computer---usually squeezed into some corner of a bedroom or family room, maybe even a basement--where 'gathering around to do this' is not going to be very convenient for anyone.
