First Time for Everything

This is a first for me but I am sure some of you have had this happen. I was contracted to close a borrowers loan on their Primary Property by company "A". I find out from the borrower that another Notary hired by company "B" is coming after me to close on their Investment property. So far So Good.
This morning UPS drops the Investment property docs at my door. I am surprised and confused. I finally find a phone number for Company "B" and ask what is going on. They say that the borrower requested that I do both closings. I said ok, since I have the docs I will rearange my evening closing time to accomodate doing both for this borrower. I asked them to send me a confirmation for the signing and that we needed to discuss the fee. I was Quickly informed that they would "not" pay me because I was not in their database. I refused the 2nd signing.
It seems like a Bad Business pratice to send a borrower's sensitive ID information to a person they don't know. I wonder how they got my home address to send the package to me? I was too mad to ask them at the time but I have since sent them an email asking for an explanation.

That sounds almost 'unique'. They send you the docs, but won't pay you...because you're not in their database? If you hear any more, please do post as this is quite a story.

Seems like an easy fix why don't they just add you to there database? It's so funny they would even try that guess they were hoping you were in a good mood

LSI, wont hire you if you are not in their database. You will have to fill out all 29 pages in order to be with them plus a BGC I think from their preffered company.

"LSI, wont hire you if you are not in their database"

That is so true. One of their schedulers who always called me for signings in my area, a couple or so years ago called me and asked if I knew anyone in a certain area that did signings.
I gave her the name of a signing agent I had used in the past.
She called me back and asked if she could go through my signing service as the signing agent wasn't in their database and they couldn't call someone who was not in their database.

That was weird! Although I have a signing service I was not a signing service for LSI. But I did take care of that signing for them as a signing service.

This is indeed strange.
Did you ask who was going to pay you?
Perhaps, you either got ahold of an idiot or they expected the borrower pay you since he requested you.

I would have done both 1st and then the 2nd appointments and take note of the escrow number ect... and direct bill.
I would have also created an invoice and had the borrowers sign it.
LSI would have no choice but to honor the invoice

He didn't say the company was LSI. I honestly can't see LSI sending out docs to a notary they haven't spoken to. They are a stickler for their confirmations.

I actually had something similar happen to me once with modification docs, except I didn't know anything about another set of docs until I got there. (Both sets of docs went directly to the borrowers.) They asked me to sign both which I was happy to do. I thought it was just an oversight from my client, which I was sure I could get straightened out. Later I found out that the second set of docs was from a completely different company. I'd never worked for them before, wasn't in their data base, and I had a great time -- NOT -- weeding through the bureaucracy to get paid. (BTW, they said they hadn't heard from any other notary...)

The second package was from a big company with less than thrilling fees, so I'd never bothered applying to them. I ended up getting into their data base and now I do get the occasional call when they need something urgently or need a Spanish speaking notary -- and I'm able to negotiate a more palatable fee. I think I did have to provide them with my commission info and I don't recall what else, but it ended up being worth the hassle.
