How did you start in this business?
Hello all my name is Matilda I am in NJ! I was just wondering how you all got started doing closings. I actually had a co worker train me and teach me all the ropes. I have been a member on this site for a while but today is my first time actually posting. I do visit here daily though. I work full time and do closings part time and it works out really great.....I could never see myself doing this full time though. Its very challenging and at times aggrevating....lol I truly take my hats off to those who can work full time doing this my ex coworker does it full time now and has been making great money doing this so it works for her.

probably the same way you become a millionaire in America....start with TWO million....
in other words...get out now!!...before you get in too deep...If you read my profile, I'm getting OUT of this business and many others have too. This is NOT the time to try to get into this business...
Sorry if I'm harsh...but I'm realistic and speak the truth....even if it is hard for some people to hear.
Happy Pesach to all my Mishpocha out there.

Ditto from me Doc, hope you'll still hang around with your
superior advice and outstanding sense of humor! I too have called it "full time quits" and I've gone to part-time. Between the mortgage meltdown and the latest batch of get rich quick guys and gals I've just found it in my best interest to be more selective about whom I work with. I'm totally delighted with O/N docs to BO's for a company that pays like clockwork and I am getting attached to the security of a "pay check" every week! Wahoooo!

Actually your not being to harsh I didnt really just start I am just new to posting! I will never do this full time because I am so use to having benefits and getting paid when I don't work etc! Its just extra income for me and right now it works out so I am milking it until I cant milk it anymore! In so many ways I agree with what your saying because as I said in my original post I dont see how some folks do this full time but to each its own.............This is part time income for me nothing more nothing less and I have been making a great income doing it part time!

What you are describing Matilda is a "hobbyist"...
part time SA's with no business plan have made it difficult here to earn a living full time. They work for low fees, travel any distance and think it's grand to be able to earn the extra money for a trip to the Mall or dinner out with the kids. You state you work full time because you're use to benefits and getting paid when you don't work....ummm...I can see how this side line works for you. Good luck in your endeavor! And good luck to those SA's in your area.

First of all to categorize me with all part time SA’s is completely insane because I DON’T do closings for low fees and I don’t look at this as being a hobby! I look at it as exactly what it is a part time job and I work just as hard as anyone else. This is no different then someone else taking on a part time job with a full time job. Working families do it everyday! Furthermore you don’t know what my fee’s are so you cannot speak on what my fee is and it’s really ignorant for you to speak the way you speak as if you know my situation. What I am doing works for ME and that’s all that matters! Just because I do this part time doesn’t not mean that I will travel any distance for any fee sorry but I am not stupid nor am I ignorant so whatever experiences you have had with part time SA’s doesn’t apply to me!

ahhhh...forgive me then for assuming you were a hobbyist...
your remark " Its just extra income for me and right now it works out so I am milking it until I cant milk it anymore! " says it all.

Re: ahhhh...forgive me then for assuming you were a hobbyist...
Yes it is extra income for me however that isnt to say that I don't take it seriously and that I am not working as hard as anyone else! Yes I did say milking it meaning "making money" if you dont understand a post dont take it as what YOU would want it to mean! The bottom line is that I do it part time and It works for me there is no need for me to try and prove any points to you. I do what I do for me and MY family not to please others! Thanks you!

You just said the same thing you accuse Sue of...
"...nor am I ignorant so whatever experiences you have had with part time SA’s doesn’t apply to me! "
You certainly don't know "whatever" experiences that Sue had so how can you know that they don't apply to you. I suspect that in many ways they do, your protestations speak volumes! So do you use your employers resources to help fund yor part-time income. I'd say that was milking it.

"THEY work for low fees, travel any distance and think it's grand to be able to earn the extra money for a trip to the Mall or dinner out with the kids".
This is what I was replying to when I said it doesnt apply to me! If you read the post she clearly catigorized me with part time SA's when she used the word "THEY".....I asked a simple question that required a simple answer and thanks to all of you who read my OP and answered my question with honesty and repect! If you didn't want to answer the question fine no problem but there was no need for all of this. MY question was "HOW DID YOU START IN THE BUSINESS" nothing more nothing less! Anything else was uncalled for and clearly off the subject. There is so much negative energy on here why I don't know(not from everyone) but I am a very happy and loving person I don't need the negativity it does nothing but stunt your growth and I will not allow anyone to do that! Again thanks to all who replied to my question without going over board and drifting off into something else!

Re: why ask how to start then?
So I was just sitting around clipping coupons, clipping coupons, clipping coupons! How boring! I came across the NNA web site, and it told of all the exciting ways I could become a millionaire (again) actually working a little, and having fun doing it! I decided to become a “Mobile Notary”. What FUN!! The trouble is…. I’ve made so much money that I had to put it in bonds again, ( I don’t like presently like stocks ) and now I’m back clipping coupons, clipping coupons……

You sound like you have no respect for this line of work.
For those of us that work hard at this as full time work I am offended by you saying that you are milking it. Sounds like you don't take this seriously. So, maybe you aren't charging seriously.

It sounds like the reaction you received to your post surprised you - and it may be difficult to understand from your perspective. I think part of it relates to this comment of yours: "... I dont see how some folks do this full time..."
The sad fact is that it was a lot easier to do this full time before so many people decided - for whatever reason - that this was a great sideline to do to just make some "extra income". And now with the decreasing volume of business being divided up among so many more people, there's a lot less to go around. All the extra pin money the part time folks make can be seen as that much less income for someone else. For someone working this as a full time occupation, it could mean just getting the bills paid has become more difficult. People tend to get a little testy about that, as you found out. And your comment about "milking it" (which I do think sounds a bit disrespectful of our business) was like rubbing salt in the wound...

Well it was sort of by mistake. I had put a notary listing in my yellow pages. It was free with my JP one. I got a call to go to notarize some loan documents and these folks from out of town would pay me later. Red flags all over the place, but I checked up on them and they seemed reliable, so I went and notarized some papers. Did not have a clue about most notarizing or loan docs. Well I did get paid the remarkable amount of $50 (nine years ago) and said self let's look into this. And I did, and I studied, and I joined what few organizations there were at the time and I learned from all the wonderful people out in computerland. I kept my full time job for almost 5 years until it was plain that something had to give. By then I had been able to purchase what office equiptment that was necessary, get a cell phone, etc. I had a pretty good run for a couple of years.

I became a Notary because I needed something very flexible in schedule. I did hear a radio ad once or twice that did NOT promise that I'd make millions. I waited six months before I acted on the idea. I do this full-time and do a lot of regular notary work in addition to loan signings. At this stage of my family's goals, being a Notary works. My husband brings home the bacon and I fry it up. We're not rich (yet) by any means but eat three squares a day (and snacks) are clothed and have a decent roof over our heads.
I enjoy being a Notary.

My hubby and I sold our 6 gas stations (best thing we ever did). I took an entire year off to decide and find something I would like. All I knew is that I did not want to work in an office all day. I was so spoiled being able to come and go as I please working for family for 20 years. I knew I had to find something somewhat flexible. We went to a wedding in KC and in conversation asked someone what they did, they explained it to me. Next thing I knew, I got my commission, equipment etc etc. He trained me and off I went full speed ahead. I love it 99% of the time. I love the people I meet, that's the best part. The rest is history. I'm in this for the long haul unless I win the lottery. lol

I became a Notary to complete the title work for customers that were buying the Manufactured Homes that I sold. I also executed their loan docs. Later on I left that company for better benefits..then that job was eliminated. I recieved unemployment while I was starting my SA and Mobile Notary business! I felt very fortunate to have had my old job eliminated! Of course I have a great partner and husband Paul!
