Knowing when docs arrive via text message on cellphone
This message was posted a few days ago "If you just need to know when docs come in, then set up yahoo or g-mail alerts to text message your phone"....???? Can this type of alert be set up with Verizon Wireless, using a "basic" phone capable of receiving text messages? I think there is a service called "SMS"? I would just like to know when I receive docs from TC's & SS's....but not ALL my e-mail (with Spam being such a problem?!), while away from home and laptop. Thanks!

I have mine set up to send me a text when emails from my contact list only come in. I too, did not want all my emails texting me. I set up my email account that way and it works great.

Do you have it set up with Verizon Wireless? How is it done, with your E-mail Outlook configuration, or is it a service you have to subscribe to? Thanks in advance!

I have hotmail and set it up through the options there. No extra cost involved. Yahoo has it too under "register for mobile alerts". I am not sure about outlook.

With Outlook you have to install an ad-in then you can have Outlook send out a text message based on rules you setup. The only drawback to this option is that you need to have Outlook running all the time.

Having Outlook running while not at home is not the best idea. Is there any Independent SMS service that this can be accomplished with having ANY computer running Outlook live?

I have been doing this for 2 years.
I have several email addresses with one being for business through my cable carrier that I download to Outlook. All emails going to that address I have copied to a $20 Paid Yahoo account. My yahoo account is not published anywhere - I only use it for this purpose. Through Yahoo, I set up a text "alert" that text messages my phone when I get an email to that account. Only the Yahoo paid account will do this.
I have verizon cell service. For $7.95 a month I get "Get it now" and it includes 500 text messages a month. I can log onto my yahoo account the read my mail, although I cannot see the attachments.
The key is to make sure the Yahoo account is only known to you and your business account is ONLY used for business. Use a different account for your NNA listing if you have one. I get a TON of junk mail due to that listing. Otherwise, you will get slammed with non-stop text messages. Another benefit is if you need to, you can log on to Yahoo anywhere and print docs.

I use Microsoft Live to text me when I get a new email. I only use it for business and most of the junk (99%) gets filtered. The nice thing about MS Live is that if you want to download the entire message you can replay to the text and it will text you back the rest of the email.
With my BlackBerry I can view attachments which was nice the other day when I had to look up a phone number I forgot to print out.

But do you have to have a computer running before receiving an e-mail on your phone?

No. Direct Internet access via the BalckBerry service.

Forgot, the texting part of it works on any phone (I think). It's just that; texting.
